    143. Cherche's Minerva and Gerome's Minerva are not allowed to breed period.

They're the exact same animal, how is that possible? Scratch that, I don't want to know.

    Anyway...

    147. Miriel may no longer put herself or anybody else in danger for the sake of science.

    148. It is now mandatory for Gaius to be equipped with tissues at all times, so that his frequent nosebleeds won't become a distraction on the battlefield.

    149. Also Gaius, stop playing ""Panne knight." It was cute the first time, but now you're just wasting her time.

    150. Laurent, please keep a separate inventory for your joke weapons/spells and your actual battle equipment. You only have five slots of inventory, remember?

  2. Realizing that a game has fake difficulty is one of mine. Instead of making the AI smarter, adding more tricks up their sleeve, or increasing the quality or quantity of the enemy for choosing the harder difficulties, the game just makes them hit harder, or it gives them a blatant resource bonus. It either makes the game's higher difficulties boring because you don't need to change your play-style much, or the game becomes a clear definition of "hard for the wrong reasons."

Despite not having played that many fighting games, I cringe whenever I see the half/quarter circle movements for special moves. Admittedly, part of this is because the only fighting games I've played (besides Smash Bros) were on a computer, and trying those moves on a keyboard isn't fun, but even with a controller I never feel confident pulling them off.

  3. 67. We will buy cooking supplies and start cooking lessons as soon as possible, so that our raw food can be turned into something actually edible.

    68. Unless its for it's intended purpose, no one is allowed to even touch the resurrection shrines.

    69. While dungeon crawling, feel free to chime in if you have an idea of the solution to a riddle/puzzle. Alm/Celica don't have to solve everything themselves, you know?

    70. Any alcoholic beverages will be sold immediately for money. Unless anyone knows how to make a Molotov; then a few bottles will be saved so we can rain fiery death upon our enemies.

See, the thing about this is, it makes me worried that the game is going to be too huge and ambitious for its own good like Fates was.  How far can we go before things collapse?

I think they learned their lesson with Fates, and will try not to bite off more than they can chew from now on. That being said, I'm hopeful, yet cautious about the game being silent for so long. On the one hand, I have no doubt that they've been working hard since day one, and have plenty of good ideas of how to evolve the gameplay and improve the characters and story. On the other hand, I could also see them wasting time implementing features that aren't needed, and I do wonder if the game is impressive enough to hold its own at E3 (unless it's revealed earlier, which is very possible).

  5. I could see an "open world" Fire Emblem game working, although I question if I'd want the main game to be based around it.

The player character would be a mercenary, and would hire both named and generic units into their army. You would take jobs from villages and towns, or from the lords of several different kingdoms on the continent. Missions would range from things like fending off bandit attacks, or joining in a war against an enemy nation, to leveling up trainee/villager units to promote into more useful classes, or escort duty. The player could engage in less noble behavior as well, such as raiding towns, kidnapping/assassinating lords, or working for less savory individuals. If the player works for a nation long enough, they could become a lord with their own land and army, but would have greater responsibilities to handle.

The game could also have multiple plots. There could be longer and unique side-quests that result in you getting better equipment and/or a new unit. Mount and Blade has Ruler and Claimant story-lines for each kingdom, where both the current ruler and a claimant have their own side of the story of who deserves the throne, and you decide which side to support, or whether or not to get involved in the first place. Pirates: Live the Life! also added a story-line where you have to find and rescue your family who has been captured by the big bad, before eventually fighting him yourself, before the main character grows too old. I think both of these story ideas could work for a Fire Emblem game.

As for movement, I think that that a combination of Awakenings and Echoes hub world would do. I also think that having a world map made up of a grid where you can travel a limited amount of spaces each turn, with free roam in villages and castles and such, could also work.

Essentially, Mount and Blade or Pirates as a turn-based strategy game, and honestly I'm perfectly fine with that.

  6. 135. Please cut down on the jokes about Robin being a shipping lord (unless (s)he starts them). After all, you guys did agree to the S-Support system.

    136. If Owain is to be shown anything, it is actual HEMA techniques. Reality can be more entertaining than fiction, and it will make him more efficient in combat to boot.

    137. Do not attempt to approach, feed, or wrestle a wyvern without the help of their respective trainer/rider.

  7. I've had the idea of adding more personal weapons before, with said weapons sacrificing one thing for another (such as a javelin/hand axe having 1 to no might, but unlimited durability, or a weapon having a high crit rate put a pitiful hit rate) that would be unique and fitting to certain characters, but this the first time I've heard of personal weapons being shared between units but only providing bonuses to certain ones, and the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I just think that the weapons bonuses should make sense both gameplay and story wise, and should overall be useful but not gamebreakinig.

I also accidentally misread the title as sentient weapons, and was about to list examples I had though of of that idea before rereading the title.

How about Chris Avellone? Probably the only video game writer I know by name since he did it for one of my favorite rpgs of all time and some other perennially acclaimed games like Planescape Torment, KOTOR 2, and the recent Prey though I haven't yet gotten to any of those three. In the games I have played, he's got an excellent grasp on dialogue writing and character growth that reacts to player choices. He can write small scale conflict side quests in a way that reflects back on the larger scale events of that world. These are all aspects of writing I feel Fire Emblem, especially 3DS era Fire Emblem, has trouble with.

I was just about to suggest him, but you beat me too it! Regardless, I wholeheartedly agree that he should try his hand at writing for the series, even if it is just a one time deal. He's extremely good at deconstructions, and ensuring that the gameplay and story compliment each other. And as you said, he's also good at writing dialogue and characters. My only concern is that while a lot of the characters you meet in the games you mentioned tend to be unique and are far two dimensional, you can tell that the players party gets the lions share of depth and development, and they tend to be of a reasonable size too, so I wonder how'd he handle writing for an army of over 30 people.

By the way, what RPG are you talking about when you say it's your favorite? I've played KOTOR 2, and it has one of my favorite stories in a videogame (even if I haven't beaten it, because my computer can no longer play bioware games anymore for some stupid reason) and I've tried Planescape Torment but haven't gotten very far, honestly (I should have heeded the warning that the game starts of slow more strongly, and it doesn't help that I'm not good at finishing long games anyway).

  9. 108. Assassins will never attempt to jump into haystacks as an escape route.

    109. Pegasi, wyverns, dragonstones, and to a lesser degree the jumping power of Taguels, will never be abused for those "jump from a high place onto soft/bouncy" dares.

    110. Owain, and ESPECIALLY Henry will never be show Mortal Kombat. EVER!

    111. Owain will also never be shown Killer Instinct. We don't need him attempting ridiculously long combos or shouting "C-C-C-Combo Breaker!" every time someone counters.

  10. I tend to base it off the characters personality, or I just plain go for an easy reference (or both). For Example:

Alm's Sword in Awakening is "Excalibur."

    Python's bow is "Solid Snake."

The first time I killed Deen for his brave sword, I accidentally renamed it "Deans Memory," so in a morbid sense I ****ed on his grave trying to respect his death.

Kamui's Steel sword is "Kamui's Katana."

The Blessed Sword is given it's original name of "Holy Sword."

When I reclassed Gaius into a hero, he was extremely effective but burned through weapons very quickly, so quite fittingly I named it after candy. Stuff like "Jawbreaker, Kit-Kat, Skittles, Candy Crush and the like."

I never actually upgraded the weapon, but I vowed to rename the lighting sword as "Pichu," "Pikachu," and Rikachu" every time I upgraded it.

  11. 101. To avoid Copyright issues, Gregor will never shave his head or wield a minigun.

    102. Griffon riders are now allowed to wield swords so they can actually be useful.

    103. Taugel's and Manaketes will now be trained in the art of hand to hand combat, and are allowed to wield a sidearm, so they won't have to rely on their stones so often.

    104. On that same note, stone wielding units, please stay transformed! It saves on the uses of your weapons! And it prevents the animations from looking awkward as heck!

  12. Luthier would make the most sense, as it's stated that he travels to Archanea anyway to study magic more thoroughly. It would also be an excuse for both a funny and hard map if you have to recruit him while fighting off multiple bandit bosses, each with a separate grudge against him.

Kliff could also work, as he travels the world in his ending, and could make an interesting magic/physical unit hybrid, or could otherwise reference how classes work in Gaiden, although I can't think of any real reason why he would join the conflict.

Tatiana took Sirius' role in the story as an early game recruit, then Camus himself could show up later with better stats. Considering how legendary Camus' reputation is, I always found his bases as Sirius to be very underwhelming.

This is one of those ideas where I see things working both for and against it. On the one hand, her being a bit of a crutch character makes sense, as she's the most powerful Saint in Gaiden, but is still overall a noncombatant, and her status as a healer means that she's still undeniably useful, but you can't overuse her. On the other hand, I question why Camus would bring her along on a potentially dangerous mission that she has no connection with, especially since he's trying keep his identity secret anyway.

  13. 37. If Valbar initiates the conversation, or if the conversation is respectful, you may sidestep rule 32.

    38. Saber may not make pirate/ninja jokes when he becomes a dread fighter.

    39. If Kamui class changes into a sage, he may no longer attempt to sheathe his staff like a sword. It just looks like you're trying to hard.

    40. Mycen will now be in charge of the stealth training, and he has a lot of explaining to do about how he ninja'd his way across an entire continent.

  14. I wouldn't mind this mechanic returning, as long as the gameplay is built with this mechanic in mind. It's the entire reason why defeating Desaix early is even possible, and I like how it allows characters fulfill the role of a tank without said role being gamebreaking.

That being said, I also wouldn't care if this mechanic didn't return, as every other game in the series has performed well without it. It would be a nice New Game+ reward/alteration regardless.

  15. 79. Owain is under no circumstances to be shown anything related to Dragon Ball. We don't want him to spend hours charging his already ridiculous attacks or attempting to become a Super Saiyan.

    80. Dark mages are free to switch out their... swimsuits... for ominous cloaks if they so please.

    81. Do not react so surprised when you see a stick or a long lying around on the ground. If you find any joke weapon, please send the ladles to the kitchen to be washed, and the sticks and logs to the fireplace.

    82. Anna is not allowed to cheat some poor smuck into buying a stick.

  16. 71. If going to a rollercoaster/trampoline park in the outrealms, beast and dragon stone using units must leave their respective stones at home. We don't want another legal fiasco over damaged equipment.

    72. Unless they initiate the conversation, do not talk about the fur trade around Panne or Yarne.

    73. As bad@$$ as it is to fend off an entire pack of assassins on your own, please call for help when this occurs. Permadeath exists in this game, and enemy assassins know that.

  17. 62. Kellam will not be assigned to guard duty alone. Despite his effectiveness for spotting trouble, bandits always assume the camp is defenseless for some reason.

    63. Viron will not challenge Robin to a chess/risk match. It's bad for moral all around.

    64. We don't care if you decide to wear a dress/skirt if you're riding a flying beast, but if you do, please wear leggings.

    65. If Sully's swearing bothers you, ask politely for her to stop. If she continues and is unapologetic about it, you are free to gag her (do this at your own risk, however).

  18. 25. Jesse may recruit mercenaries for his kingdom after the war, not during.

    26. Despite the fact that we took it from his cold, dead hands, we may not transform Deens Brave sword into a rapier or any other weapon. Undead exist in this universe, and it would be a bad idea to test whether or not they're the vengeful kind.

    27. Kliff, I don't care what your class is, you are not attacking Desaix. The "impailed on a lance" joke will not become a "funny aneurysm" moment.

  19. Stahl x Panne is my personal favorite, even if it does admittedly do more for Stahl's character than Panne's. Their conversations are hilarious but down to earth, and I always enjoy seeing Stahl helpful side in action (which, granted, is in every conversation he has, but that's not at all a bad thing). That, and their S-Support is one of my favorites in the game, and it elevated and solidified Stahl position as my favorite Fire Emblem character.

Laurent x Nah is my least favorite. What could have been a series of interesting conversations between two intelligent characters is instead just a tasteless and unfunny joke.
