  1. Dondon and Horace already stated the only real problem with the map...swordreavers and magic (and an archer) that attack Jaffar.

    For Hard mode only...

I would suggest giving the fighters regular axes...maybe Silver or Killer. To balance this, give Zephiel a Lancereaver, so that he is vulnerable to the enemies again, which makes it harder to defend him (the point of the chapter). The big issue is that the swordreavers are supposed to make it hard to protect Zephiel since he wields swords, but what it also accomplishes is that Jaffar pretty much has a 50% chance of death. Combine that with his AI where he charges headlong into enemies, abandons pillars, and doesn't use the elixir until he's below 50% health, and that's the problem.

Nino is fine. You might give her paragon so that she gains exp faster. I have no idea if that's possible, though.

  2. Well, IMO, IV is better. However, for drafts, I think IV is objectively better, due to Cecil being required and therefore free, giving everyone the opportunity to at least finish even if they get a high score due to poor draft selections. A V draft of jobs would be interesting, but someone might get stuck with freelancer and white mage for most of the game (for example), even with good draft selections. I'm not sure how a VI draft would work, you'd need a few exceptions which, frankly, I just don't like.

How similar is the FFIVj version and the GBA version? We need to all play the same version of the game (or at least similar). I may also need to adjust the boss level sheet above. My initial plan was to use the NA version (for the sake of ease and to not have to think about all those extra items), but I'd go for the original.

Is that good for everyone? Original post will be edited to reflect changes that are decided on.

I just realized that I *own* the GBA version, and since I was planning to play this on the SNES, I could do the GBA version on my DS as well. It's up to Baldrick and Horace.

  3. Not even once there are no more useful things to steal?

Lol at training Renault. He was a pretty obvious first pick for this draft. If you trade him a Shine and have him somehow spam out the whole book without costing turns, he'll still have 10 WExp to go.

Legault's combat is not bad. I really won't be surprised if you change your mind...

    RE: Thieves

Well, it's simple really. 28x is going to cost turns to visit, and Fel Contracts cost 50k. If I do promote one, it'll only be one, and only to abuse silencer if I can. Now, there is a gem (or two?) to steal in 28x, but is it worth it? I don't know. Maybe. Plus the speedwings are there, too. Maybe it's worth a trip.

    RE: Renault

Killing blows award double WEXP, so it's entirely feasible to get Renault to S Light by the time he gets to the dragon. Not that I'll need him, but I'd like to pretend that he's useful. (Going 2nd in a SOYO has to be the worst position).

Oh, and Harken/Karel show up on turn 10. That's not exactly fast, and to recruit him I either need to have Hector hang back or eat a Marcus penalty. Not cool!

  4. Yay drafting complete.

I figured Nagl would figure that he had to give you Florina, because she'd be too useful to the others and to leave you stacked with all the fliers (also with her lack of durability she looks really redundant once you get the other fliers). And then you would give Raven to Horace so he'd be stuck without high-Mov drafts and with only Oswin for added 1-2 range. I had to give Nagl a cav to make this possible. I chose Sain because (a) I think Kent is better for HHM and his team already looks pretty good; (b) so Harpoon wouldn't get both of Serra's "fast" supports. (Although that's a pretty minor consideration; keeping Sain next to Serra doesn't exactly sound like my idea of fun.)

I probably won't start actually playing this until the new year.

A fine plan...except for the part where it didn't work.

I'm not sure how Kent is better than Sain, especially with Lyn mode added on. Hope for Speed screwage? Hope for no chapter 9/10 promotion? Sain's strength score will probably be outrageous, then throw on the energy ring for fun.

    As for my team:

Lyn Mode - Lyn, Erk, Serra, Matthew: Oh...this is going to hurt. Yay for free use of predeployed units? I'm also not remembering if the game remembers turns spent next to each other during Lyn mode. I'll have to look it up.

    Free Units

Lyn - If she's blessed, she'll do fine. At least she'll get tons of exp.

Erk - Solid unit. He will probably be my boss killer early on (*sob*)

Serra - The star of the show. I'm saving a warp use for Final.

Matthew - Thief! Won't get promoted!

Hector - We all know Hector

    Drafted Units

Renault - Staff user...oh wait. Um? Aureola is useful, I guess, if I can get the weapon exp up there.

Farina - She has great stats, but she always takes more time to get. This time, however, she won't take extra time to get, because I don't have anyone to fly over the lake. (Which is bad, btw)

Legault - Better thief! Also won't get promoted!

Vaida - HM BONUS STATS OF AWESOMENESS

Harken - MORE HM BONUSES plus costs turns. At least he comes with a good weapon.

Raven - MORE MORE HM BONUSES. Recruiting him is going to be a pain, but since I don't have Florina, I won't be going to 17x anyway, so at least there's no timer this time.

(Priscilla) - Stand on forest/fort, hope she gets attacked 700 times. If that happens...well, I'd say it'll be a huge help, because that means my turn count is going into astronomical numbers.

  5. I play for fun, but the fun comes from the challenge of beating the game with your team and competing against the other players in your draft. I don't know if I could win a standard draft, I'm not so good at picking the best characters, but I sure try.
