My point is that's boring. He shows signs that he's just as capable of being authoritarian and utopian as she is, he just looks way better in the end because he got to set up his one-continent government by "liberating" it from the previous owner. He's a duplicitous, conniving schemer who didn't have to be all that duplicitous or conniving because he was given everything he wanted on a cruelty-free silver platter. I wanted to see a Claude who didn't have an easy way out of achieving his goals. Who actually had to be the conniving, duplicitous trickster he's hyped up as in part 1, if he really wanted his utopian world without racism.

Unrealistic maybe, but a world without any racism ? How can that be boring ? It's a world without any racism and any worlds are free to explore and others can all live in peace and harmony no matter what culture and skin colour they have. It's something that this world needs, but will unfortunately, maybe, never have.

Claude wanted to fight and remove racism because of his upbringing, now that is very realistic and is very understandable and depressing.

Also Claude goes through some serious trust issues and instead of letting them get to him, he instead matures and becomes a trusting person. Again, how is that boring ??

As mentioned before, I think who you actually desire is a

    Spoiler

    A Evil ! Yuri.

But since she is the only one whose design I hate and she is only in Black Eagles, I skipped Black Eagles. That is exactly what I said that I did.

You should at least give Dorothea a chance, not trying to force you to like a character or anything, but she actually has a pretty good reason as to why she dresses like she does. Some spoilers below, if you don't mind them.

    Spoiler

Dorothea grew up as a orphan that had to sing to survive she grew up dirty and hungry and had to bathe in lakes. Nobles instead of taking pity on her instead laughed at her and bullied her because she was a poor dirty lonely kid. However because of her talent she was picked up by the Opera and quickly became a celebrity and nobles began to adore her and even give her expensive gifts. Dorothea feels the need to dress hrm...with a provoking sense of style because she's "learned" that she feels that she needs to marry a wealthy noble to live and so any possible children can live too. Dorothea hates Nobles, despises them, actually, but she feels like she needs to sacrifice some happiness to live.

I just, recommend giving her at least a chance.

Honestly, Claude should have been a genuine villain on one of the routes. He feels like a massive third wheel in this conflict and he really didn't need to be.

    (VW spoilers)

I suddenly realized upon completing VW that Claude's just as bad as Edelgard is. Not to say he's evil, but he's just as much of an extremist in the name of his goals, willing to take over the continent in order to impose his well-meaning will. He didn't split up Edelgard's empire after defeating her. He kept it. He managed to accomplish everything Edelgard wanted to without any of the bad press by waiting until Edelgard did all of the soul-damning dirty work of building an empire and then just stealing it from her and getting all the good press of being a hero without actually having to be any better than she was.

If Edelgard weren't here to do all the dirty work for him, he would have made possibly an even more interesting villain than she did. A backstabbing, conniving, traitorous scumbag willing to do anything necessary to take over the continent and create a world without racism. Imagine if they actually put him in a situation where he actually had to do awful things to the other teams in order to get what he wants. Instead he barely amounts to a cameo in every route that isn't his, and his own route is just a recycled version of Silver Snow with a final boss that really could have been fought by anyone.

Expect Claude DIDN'T WANT TO START A WAR. Claude didn't want to create bloodshed. Yes, he agreed with Edelgard, but he didn't "agree" when it came to Edelgard declaring a war. Claude had to fight back in the end though, because Edelgard was going to take over the country and make his dreams of a world without any racism impossible and she was going to kill him, Byleth and the rest of the Golden Deer students eventually.

If sounds like who you want as a character is not Claude but a

    Spoiler

Yuri. Who was more sneaky and manipulative. Claude comes off as that because of his lack of trust towards others and he originally does start to use Byleth if they teach GD but Claude eventually grows out of that. Who you wanted is a Yuri, a villian Yuri not a villian Claude.

I would say it's the other way around that SS is the recycled version of GD because that's the optional split off from the main Black Eagles route.

That's because it only works as a tertiary or lesser character trait, it's unhealthy when it becomes the focal point (or one of them).

If she had moved on then it would be fine however from memory when you marry her to somebody else whom actually gives her attention and knows that she actually exists, she still thinks about Chrom. Yes, it's very unhealthy.

I think the game wanted you to take pity on her and desire to marry her instead lol ? Just a theory.

It sucks because I actually shipped her with Chrom almost straight away and then you quickly learn that Chrom just doesn't really care about her whatsoever and she can't seem to let the crush on him go which is a tad annoying and depressing.

Chrom isn't even that good looking lol

I've heard the opposite, actually, but I'm not sure how well I should trust a video game to accurately depict mental illness.

Well it's "good" for media, as mental illness in media is usually depicted very, very, very, very, very poorly and is usually romanticized. example : 13 Reasons Why.

Not even gonna touch the fact that the voices aren't actually real and a product of his own subconscious lol.

That's mental illness for you. I'm getting really personal here, but we know that the voices are not real, but the big problem is that they can feel and seem very real. It sucks, and you can feel trapped by them.

I've heard that Dimitri's PTSD was done very realistically ? Not saying that they all resort to actions like murder, just that well, it's not pretty. They can feel emotionally numb, detached and distant from other people, and have angry outbursts and aggressive behaviour. That sounds like what Dimitri goes through.

Just standing up for the whole "voices in the head", thing and his mental illness.

  7. Robin was fun and entertaining at first, but now the whole avatar idea just feels rather tiresome and dry when the ''main character " of the game has characterization of a piece of wood. Having Edelgard, Claude and Dimitri be the main characters and be more front and centre would of given Three Houses much more story strength.

Edit: And I guess Rhea ?

Well, Dimitri admitted that he killed kids. I mean, with his strength and skill, does killing kids, even if they are armed, really seem justified?

I would not say that he has "logic" in the way you are thinking. His "logic" is warped in that he deems ANYONE that is, in HIS view, "unworthy" of life. Byleth once tried to reason out that bandits might just be people that are desperate for some food or have some good reason. Dimitri immediately snaps at him.

Because in his reality, everyone that kills or is trying to kill, is absolutely unforgivable.

It's rather interesting how in this route, Felix is rather adamant in wanting Dimitri back, in the first thing he tells Byleth is that they have to try and get Dimitri back to normal.

Right. Dimitri confessed that he killed children. Children.

Edit: As for Fleche she didn't even really do that much harm towards Dimitri due to his good amour protection and Felix's Father taking most of the hit. I assume that most of the other kids would've had the same experience as not even Edelgard's dagger could do much effect. Dimitri was protected well.

Just Dimitri VS Children Soldiers ? They wouldn't of had a chance in hell. Is it justified ? I say no.

How does Awakening address experienced players or players who want a challenge?! If anything, its "difficulties" are only comparable to those of Three Houses: Super Easy, Easy and Tedious. And none is engaging! Either it involves no tactics or is reduced to turtling.
I could understand if you told me that, despite its being easy, you enjoyed tearing apart enemies with a broken unit (pair.) It is not my type of fun, but it is at least palpable. Saying however that Awakening was "perfect" for newbies and more experienced players is a stretch. A very, very... very, very long one.

I said this because FE Awakening was my first Fire Emblem game and I'm not the best at tactical games like Fire Emblem. Also Fates was pretty much split up to be more newbie friendly with Birthright and more aimed towards more experienced players with Conquest while Awakening was one full game that had more fairest towards everybody.

If you found Three Houses and Awakening to be too easy, easy, and tedious then good for you. More power to you.

I keep seeing this posted in this topic like it's a valid reason for poor design and I'm not sure why. You don't design entire games for beginners, you design beginner difficulty for beginners.

Plus FE Awakening already exists ? So the whole Birthright being for newbies and Conquest being for more experienced players felt....pointless. Awakening was already perfect for both groups and was one game whole. Both games also had a Phoenix Mode too,  so why not just make one full game for both parties and include the Phoenix Mode ?? Money, I guess ??

Silver Snow needs to exist because Edelgard is not the kind of lord everyone can get behind. That, and attemping to pull a redemption arc with her is impossible because the game gives you nothing to make it work and Edelgard herself already has a clear idea of how to make peace with her actions which, unlike Dimitri, she can't really backtrack from.

Bingo. Not everybody is going to like or even agree with Edelgard.

About the part with Dimitri, disagree ? This man has murdered what the game has hinted to be innocent people off the battlefield. Dimitri only "redeems", because he chooses too and the game really badly wants you to feel sorry for him. Not going to happen, sorry not sorry Edel however, is going to keep on walking forward no matter what and she doesn't see herself as needing to redeem. Why should she "redeem" ? It would be so OOC for her because she strongly believes that she's in the right and is doing the right thing for a better future for her country.

Dude the only time she is mad at people for disagreeing with them is with them trying to kill her

Such as the western church, Edlegard, TWSITD, Etc.

Also Claude is the schemer, he knows he could talk people out of fighting him such as Lorenz in his route or even getting people to help him like Dimitri in the BL route, saying “because it probably is” is horrible for your argument since probably doesn’t count for shit as that is arguing from things we don’t know

If Claude wants to challenge the church and Rhea, then she would completely snap and try and take him down. Rhea wouldn't take too nicely to this, and Claude knows this. Rhea is nice towards you, unless you challenge her and I don't think she would ever listen to Claude or his schemes... in fact trying to trick Rhea would just make her even more furious, I feel

Rhea is like a ticking bomb, you don't want to accidentally push the wrong trigger with her.

Yes, he managed to talk out Lorenz, but Rhea is so very different.

Claude could TRY, but he fancies his head too much, I feel.

Claude at one point in his route says that without the war he wouldn’t be able to bring his dreams to fruition. I’m not saying they wanted it, I’m saying that without it they wouldn’t have had the power in the aftermath to realize their ideals.

Not sure if I agree though, as the war and the truth about Edelgard being the Flame Emperor makes Dimitri mentally snap and Claude loses everybody, or dies. They only come out of it okay if the professor is with them, if Byleth isn't with them, then the war completely destroys them both. Maybe if they both came out of the war somewhat okay with or without Byleth then I would agree.
