  1. All looks, no substance.

There´s a whole lot of nothing happening on these maps. Add those glorious sticky swamps, deserts and a whole buncha 1tile chokes.

Enemy units are laughable, unless they target RES in which case you might actually have to be careful... if the AI wasn´t dumber than a box of rocks.

One does not simply hold an Orange AND an Iron Sword.

The greatest entertainment this game has to offer is killing the-not-real-Desaix.

Could you go into a bit more detail over why you feel that way about Birthright? I'm curious as to the specifics if you don't mind me asking.

What use are cool mechanics, when the maps to use them on aren´t as good? Which is to say BR´s map design is firmly uninteresting. And maybe the units a bit too frail for my tastes.

I haven't played Revelations, though I usually hear people say that it's the "middle game" of the three.

All the skills. All the units. EZ map for grinding. Sandbox achieved.

  3. Lost Gilbert in chapter 13 and thus magic axe Annette was benched. But for story reasons he is still there and that makes me kinda really salty.

I lost Xane once in a run and only noticed in the final chapter when I needed him for a teleport.

  4. Isn´t there a giant table in the monastery being used for tutoring and stuff after the timeskip? That one closed off room to the, hmmm, left? I think you can even clip through the table.

    Other than that.

    Steel chairs as weapons.

    Tables as shields.

    Throw in some alcohol elixirs.

    It´ll be a riot.

This feels like a significant nerf to defence-based tanks.

Nothing speaks against adding anything to armoured units that differentiates the from regular units beyond -1 Mov.

Such as permanent in-class dmg reduction on top of the DEF stat.

You might as well give everyone Lethality then.

I don´t think the difference between a crit and Lethality needs an explanation.

Also, as someone who has long wanted critical hits to be made weaker, I disagree with this.

    I disagree with your disagreement.

Crits are like wasps. Mostly unwelcomed, ultimately negligible.

It actually just requires there not be any enemies left after than player phase (or at least not enough who can reach him to kill him), so he can indeed use lunge on an enemy and live.

Lunge is niche for wall jumps. You won´t be able to hit everything behind a wall.

Not enough to kill Gunther seems like a... tall? small? I-dunno-order, particularly in lategame.

I meant Fighter might be better as an innate reclass option than Mercenary, not that he should get it through through Corrin marriage.

    I know?

Rally STR for STR/DEF access, Axefaire to mayhaps pass down.

Xander is the only one who gives you a flying shelterbot.

I rethought the concept of flying shelterbot and it doesn´t sound good for the old lad. Lunge is for getting good units in position, which Gunther isn´t and Shelter is basic utility which Gunther can do, but that is a low bar (Do you have Cav Y/N?).

Lunge-ing (?), in the case of Gunther, requires there be no other enemy since he won´t survive anything. Unless he´s just a sacrifice, in which case: +1 SD point.

Y´know. For the price of one S-support you can get a free "shelterbot" with better stats than Gunther. And if Corrin is a woman...

On 6/16/2022 at 2:58 PM, AnonymousSpeed said:

Not so much fighting as surviving, which lets you be a little looser with positioning.

According to conventional FE wisdom, Wyvern is already the bestest class ever, so if he has trouble surviving as one, nothing is going to fix him. Especially with all that legendary MoVeMeNt. Maybe give him boots to increase his options.

I think Merc is better for a more balanced stat spread - SPD/SKL for Merc, Wyvern and Horse is STR/DEF with slight differences.

Would give Rally STR and a quick Axefaire though. Too bad he fucks up Kanna.

    Gunter, who can Rally Defense

For the casual price of 3 Lvls, and a HS out of... 4 at that point in time? Do I have that right?

His dual-strikes are actually okay with an effective weapon

There´s that slight issue where better units than Gunther can 1HKO enemies with effective weapons, thus the support boy won´t have them.

Gunter would like Knight more than Mercenary because he doesn't have the durability to make good use of Sol, but he's so slow that Wary Fighter would benefit him.

In order to make this support unit better at fighting, let´s give it another class to spend 3 lvls in, which isn´t the class we want him to be in, where it will struggle to reach enemies, struggle to kill enemies and also won´t do a lot of supporting either.

You are probably right. Adventurer would have been better. That sweet staff utility.

I'd disagree. Backpack is nice, but shelter shenanigans can let you get extra dances each turn. And since Beruka and Camilla are actually functional combat units, you may want them actually attacking instead of using Rally Defense. Even as a backpack, an 8-move flying class is a great way to move Corrin around the map if he's a Master Ninja or Nohr Noble or something. It's all support, but not all backpacking.

Shelter: Silas, reclassed Jacob, reclassed Arthur, Peri, Silas, Gunther, Xander, Sophie, Dwyer, Siegbert & whoever gets mothered by Peri.

Lunge: Elise, Beruka, Camilla, Gunther, Xander, Siegbert, Percy & whoever gets mothered by Beruka/Camilla.

+ Corrin if the appropriate talent is chosen.

Also some convicts if you bother, I guess but that´s kinda                                                                                                                                                                                     out there.

The majority of these units can stand and fend for themselves on top of doing what Gunther can do and some of these child units are not at all difficult to get before Gunther swoops in. They are, as you say, functional combat units, with Gunthers supposed utility but increased survivability. Neither are any of these skills ones you get late into the game - both are lvl 10.

If you Shelter you don´t Lunge. I´m not sure I understand why Lunge is so good, it´s value looking more determind by breaking up an enemy formation and setting up a good AS - which Gunther won´t.

True, but Xander is the only other character with that combination of classes naturally. They're pretty slick positioning skills, especially on a flying unit.

    Poor Siegbert.

Help actually getting to where he can be helpful. 8 move ignoring terrain effects means Gunter has pretty wide coverage with his support skills, and being able to flier skip half of Chapter 23 (among other, sometimes less dramatic fly-skips) is icing on the cake.

I meant as a dedicated Corrin backpack, since that is imo his sole purpose - at "worst" you have a GK or Paladin which still makes for amazing PU bonuses in combination with his PS. Diffcult terrain in the lategame is chapter 22, too cramped for Gunther to be on his way without surpervision and the water areas in chapter 24, where Gunther has no business being considering the map is dark and full of flying horses. And for the Great Wall of Pineapple, as far as I´m aware, enemies aren`t aggressive outside of the initial squad to the right and some reinforcements from the left, not exactly putting much pressure on the player to skip quickly and the terrain seems forgiving.

Flying Rally DEF is certainly great, but his ability to use it seems less relevant when considering we have Beruka and Camilla becomes just that tiny bit more outragously good as a WL, gifting a second Rally Def - both of these ladies making for better units than Gunther. Also Haitaka might be among the squad which is potential Rally DEF Nr. 3 and the RALLYMAN exists.

Lunge and Shelter... you get a lotta horses and wyverns in CQ is all I´m sayin.

  11. 5 hours ago, AnonymousSpeed said:

I don't know about that, wyvern is pretty good, and he definitely needs the help.

Pavise sounds a bunch better than Aegis.

What help he need when Gunther is "He who supports"? The only real thing you´d miss would be flight PU and I can think of 3 maps in total where that´d be useful, one of which has strong gusts of wind, the second has one big canyon and the 3rd is a set of stairs and the DV is ez with the royals you get.

I guess there is the case for Gunther as a unit and the relative loss of Trample, but that´s a yikes for me.

Granted maybe they didn´t want to overlap Horse & Armor since that´s -1 class and I´m not currently aware of a unit who has that condition.

  12. There´s voice-acting in Fire Emblem?

Voice acting sucks, since by the time the esteemed speaker has finished their sentence, I´ve already smashed the forward button and they start the next interval of text because hey, people read faster than a VA could speak. It´s a nuisance when they start the next sentence like they just got slapped and told to skip to the next line. Worse even, if you can´t get out of the damn cutscene or choice or whatever without the game forcing you to listen to interval Text XYZ until they are done speaking what you have already read, and the only other option is to skip the entire cutscene.

What´s this immersion that people talk about anyway? Like, do you all play the game and -zap- you are standing on Gronder Fields and swing your sword? Or some kinda Napoleon-esque commandeering?

  13. Dunno about prepromotes with bad stats but good growths, but people sing praises to Sacred Stones Seth, I think Titania from the Ike games but haven´t played those so someone else chime in, for SD... Sedgar/Wolf I guess, Frederick from Awakening, certainly the prepromoted Fates Royals and Catherine from TH.

Isadora? I think she gets used because of her weapon ranks and not her stats?

Is it possible that Edelgard is unaware of where Rhea is being kept? I mean... I guess so? It's not strictly impossible, it just seems unlikely. She doesn't seem to devote any resources toward "searching for Rhea". And for Hubert to keep her alive (i.e. fed and protected) on his own seems not super practical. My guess is - Edelgard is the one responsible for keeping Rhea imprisoned. The Slitherers know this, but don't know her precise location, and keep working with Edelgard on the guarantee that she will hand Rhea over eventually (say, once Fodlan is unified). That's the only arrangement that makes much sense to me.

Or Hubert keeps Rhea in his basement, knowing the Slitherers would off Edelgard the moment Rheas head is on a stake and messing with them is his biggest hobby, whilst also going behind Edelgards back, which methinks I read he isn´t averse to, but at the same time she can´t force Huberts hand since he is her right hand man.
