I consider it (and its sequel) among the best games I've ever played, if that says anything about how highly I regard the series. Top-quality writing, banging (and beautiful) music, charming characters, great worldbuilding, and fun gameplay. It's a slow burn, but it's worth it, IMO.

I can't disagree with this statement. I use Nephenee. Does that count? Oh, and Cecille as well. Roger too. It's okay. I've accepted it now. The ones I like best are usually the ones I spare use anyway. Makachad always dies though. If one of my liked/useful units dies, I reset most of the time. Of course, I don't go out of my way to kill of recruits I don't use. Kieran and Brom stay on the bench (for example) since, by the time I get them, there's no chance of them dying. Banger.

Recruiting everyone? Pah. Those who are not useful must be eliminated.
