I'm on my third Maddening run so far and I've mostly come to the opinion that if you're giving Alear levels in the early game, they ought to claim the second Master Seal and be reclassed.

Wyvern Alear will be very comparable to baseline Kagetsu on his joining level and likely have Canter to make better use of their personal skill. They're obviously worse than Wyvern Kagetsu, but Merrin will be a side-grade to their averages.

I know some people really want Dragon for Corrin and Byleth, but most of the dragonveins besides fire and fog didn't feel great and dragon Alear can't make much use of Corrin's skills. Not tanky enough for Pairup to be huge, not enough range for Draconic Hex or Dradful Aura.

Byleth is trickier because spectrum dance/instruct is really good. I've found that that Alear having good combat while Byleth is either on a Covert for +speed or a Mystical for long range magic sniping wound up playing better.

Yeah Byleth seems to be one of the most flexible emblem rings in the game. Rally Spectrum for Alear and later on

    Spoiler

    Veyle

are certainly unique and effective. Rally speed on coverts and spell range +2 on mystics like you said are also strong.

There is also Divine Pulse which allows units with shaky hit rates potentially get a guaranteed hit. This also applies for status staves like freeze, silence and fracture. Those can can be game changers pending on the enemy. Divine Pulse+ in particular is worth the extra investment with Byleth equipment imo because 500 SP is so cheap at that price during the mid/late game that it’s just a helpful skill as a whole.

I finished chapter 8 and now I'm doing divine paralogues, so far I did not reclass Alear, but thats because I have so little Master Seals and Second Seals. But I will most likely reclass him into a Wyvern Knight. Mainly because I intend to turn my Chloé into a Martial Master so I need to replace my flier. 😄

I'm just not sure if I wanna make him sword/lance wyvern knight or sword/axe wyvern knight.

It depends on what you value more. Though axes have heavier weight and considering Alear’s build is pretty decent, you could get away with axes but chances are they will still weigh you down somehow.

Forging and engraving does exist of course and there are passives like speed +3 for example that can offset the weight penalty. Lances are a safe bet so you could still use speed +3 and not be weighed down as much. Axes do hit harder than axes and you can only do a brave sword build for Alear. But could at least use tomahawks if using axes or spears if using lances for 1-2 range. Levin Sword as well but that scales off of magic.

  3. Side note before discussing about dragon vein: I gave Ivy Corrin Emblem for a few levels until she can inherit Dragonic Hex then gave her the Celica ring afterwards. And by god it saved my ass in chapter 21 when I was facing Veyle on a huge heal tile.

That play allowed me to have Jade score a critical hit using a forged Silver Great Axe with I think Lyn’s engraving. Whatever it is it gives higher hit and crit.

Then Veyle wasn’t too bad to take out from there.

As far as Dragon Vein, I like using Yunaka with the fog dragon vein. 60 avoid thanks to her being a covert and added crit on top of that.

According to Serenes there's a move cap of base move + 2 (i.e. you can't use more than two boots on someone), so unless I'm missing something I don't think it's possible. Which yes, makes it the biggest waste of SP in the game.

Not sure what they were thinking with Momentum+. Given that Momentum doesn't scale that well (fixed damage boost is obviously less good when enemy HP is 60 compared to when it was 30), I was really expecting Momentum+ would be "grants 2 damage for each square moved" or perhaps "grants 1 damage for each square moved, but applies to all attacks, not just the first". Both of those would make much more sense and give the skill value as an inheritable.

That is unfortunate. Because it could have been a fun skill to abuse.

  5. @lenticularIt’s a fair argument for sure. I mean the 1000 SP cost is suspect for sure considering that it is more useful if you have activated engage sigurd and you’re getting the most out it.

There is that opportunity cost too like you mentioned that while one could nab momentum early if you’re just going to try to maximize the extra damage you can muster whereas canter is far more of a worthy skill. And they both cost the same.

I don’t think Momentum is a useless skill by any means but I will agree that it’s one of the more inconsistent skills. I recall Iced Coffee Gaming on YouTube showing off momentum and thought it looked good. But even, I would rather personally pick canter for most units.

I wonder if IS knew that when designing these skills with this in mind? Like maybe a beginner’s trap or something.

Momentum is only particularly good if you are engaged with Sigurd, to be honest. Otherwise, you're only adding like 6 might at the most.

But if she is doubling naturally or using a brave lance, that’s still some good damage. You can even use forged weapons with an engraving on top of that.

Totaly understandable, I'm right now playing on maddening, so I am trying to pay attention to growth rates, so my Lapis ended up being wyvern knight and if I'm not gonna bench Louis I might make him Halberdier, but I'm afraid I will stop using him soon.

I hear you on that one. Louis for me has been great on hard mode. I’m sure maddening mode made it more difficult for him to keep up with power creep.

  8. 1 hour ago, Speedy said:

I would certainly not recommend putting Halberdier on Lapis, cause her biggest plus is her high speed. So she doesnt really need the pincer skill. But I would be willing to try Louis as Halberdier, since his speed is really bad.

Certainly makes sense why Louis is a better fit. In truth, I went into this mostly blind because I didn’t look at the growth rates of the characters and wanted to experiment around on hard mode.

  9. @67chromeThat is something I’ll have to keep in mind when considering an eventual maddening team.

I was honestly experimenting around on hard mode and see what I like or don’t like try out for a second play through. Halberdier definitely seems to be carried by the pincer attack like you said as you’re right, its stats are overall pretty average.

Louis/Amber/Goldmary is certainly someone I’m considering for sure since you mentioned them. Though I did see Iced Coffee Gaming’s video on his Goldmary General build and her defense growth is really high to begin with.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll be sure to make good use of your input.

  10. Thanks for the lengthy yet informative response. This is something I’ll have to consider. Alfred does benefit from the Halberdier class to some extent like you and some others said.

I just find it interesting that his Avenir class is meant to be a defensive bruiser since he gets a 65% defense growth after applying the class growth on top of his personal growth. That said, I have been noticing how good Warrior and Hero can be for piling on damage. I haven’t fully experimented with Brave Assist but something I do want to try out.

As far as not needing Run Through, Canter exists like you point out as well. I just thought it could be cool to keep them in position as back up attackers along with a Hero or something. But yea, that’s still good to know.

  11. I’m still on Hard mode for engage and I’m trying out Halberdier on Lapis at the moment. Eventually I’ll try out Maddening.

I guess my question is who would benefit from the halberdier class? From what I understand, it’s a solid class on paper which pincer attack can combine with stuff like swordmaster’s run through or hero’s brave assist and warrior long bow after breaking an enemy.

Growths wise who in your opinion would be best suited for it? Any tips would be nice. I’m open to options.

I'm currently on chapter 22 on my maddening run. I kept Anna as a warrior. Using the radiant bow makes great use of her magic growth and you can forget it very early. Warriors are also the only bow back up unit. She honestly is my mvp. With the tiki ring she has over 70hp and 40% luck. So I'm rarely gold starved. That being said, I am curious how she would do as a mage. I just invested too much in non mage skills to do the switch >_<.

Emblem rings I use often on her are tiki, 3 houses, ike, or roy.

I currently have Anna as a Warrior myself. She’s been doing really well in that class. Especially when I give her Tiki or Byleth so that way it’ll increase her luck for more money.

I’m going to wait until I get Micaiah back before I turn her into a high priest because it has a higher luck cap. She’s already capped res as a Warrior. I’m currently playing Hard mode before I want to tackle maddening.

While an off topic question: Maddening has fixed growths correct?

  13. I’m playing this on Hard right now. Divine Dragon is turning out fine for me right now.

Whenever I get into maddening I may try out either Hero or Griffin Knight. I’ve also heard that Wyvern Knight with a sword and lance combo is also very good. Probably the best choice.

Could do either Corrin as a emblem or Byleth and give Lyn to someone like Ivy for example who pretty damn good in this game.

I wasn't able to get them until after chapter 6 and then it triggered once I had Yunaka and went back to the Somniel. I got a notification saying there was an event at the lookout area and that's when I got them. Hopefully that's the case for you too!

A friend of mine told me the same thing. So that might be it. I’m going to give it a try

  15. Hello. I bought the expansion pack before playing the game and based on the articles I’ve read, I’m supposed to wait until chapter 4 until I get a message to go to the overlook ridge to trigger a cutscene with Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude.

I got the stat boosters that came with the first wave but for whatever reason the event didn’t trigger where I get the dlc rings. I’m currently on chapter 6 and still nothing is happening. Is there something I’m doing wrong or someone else having the same issue.

I already contacted Nintendo about it and they are forwarding my issue to another department, but if anyone can fill me in on what I can I do that would be great. Thanks in advance.

  16. Well basically it's 3 waves of Paladins. 5 per wave and that makes 15. Then 8 enemies spawn at the bottom right corner of the map wher ethe room reveals itself after the dialogue bewteen Marth and Hardin at the end of turn 3. Then after the third wave of Paladins show up, another 8 enemies spawn at the same bottom right corner. And those enemies are Snipers, Warriors, Generals and Bishops (I think). On top of the fact that there are plenty of other enemies to fight to begin with.

  17. So far I made it all the way here but then I remembered that I used up all of the thief staff back in chapter 14 and immediately regretting it. I still want to get at least most the of treasure. Most certainly the Large Bullion, Again Staff, and whatever brave weapons I can manage. When the the reinforcement waves showed up, there were 50 enemies!

Some of the units include 2x Horseman Luke and Sirius. My unit whose a Berserker, Malicia as a Swordmaster with max speed and magic and a levin sword. Some paladins and staff users and of course Feena. If anyone can advise me on how to get at least some if not most of the treasure without the thief staff at this point would be greatly appreciated. I honestly feel like I hit a brick wall.
