Panette's Wrath/Vantage build is really flexible. I personally prefer Canter or Hit+X as her second skill (with Vantage always being the first) depending on what I want her to do during a map; Hit+30 gives her 100% hit rate against even the dodgiest enemies in the game. I've also heard that Panette!Leif is good while engaged if she doesn't unlock his bond conversation for more engage weapons. On paper it seems good (with a few key advantages and disadvantages to the typical Ike!Panette build), but I haven't tried it out for myself.

That’s something I want to try out as well. Though the amount of bond fragments spent to unlock Hit +30 for her considering Maddening is where I am skeptical about. Hit +10/15 would be fine considering that you can still engrave her Killer Axe with something like Corrin for example.

I had given her Speed +3 and that was it (I hadn't thought of much else to give her, and the Speed +3 was before I thought she wasn't hacking it as a Warrior).

Have you tried Panette as a Wyvern Knight? There is also a Vantage+, Pair Up (if you want to block enemy chain attacks) or Hold Out for ensuring you live on 1 HP and Wrath if you have her piggy back off of Emblem Ike. Teaching her Wrath and giving her Emblem Roy can do the same thing. Also give her a forged Killer Axe with Lyn’s Engraving (or similar engraving that increases hit and crit rates) and she can most likely one shot most enemies on the map.

High priest Vander is just hilarious. I am going to have to try this

While this might not work on maddening, I made Vander a great knight with Hit +30 (no engravings) as well as Arms Shield+ with Erika emblem so he can activate that and Gentility at the same time when he has the weapon type advantage. Combine that with Allied Defense and he can take hits surprisingly well. I’m doing this on hard mode.

  4. @Dark Holy Elf

I can totally understand why Bow Knight Bernie might be preferred in other scenarios compared to Paladin Bernie. Encloser is going to be useful at times where Vengeance is not and that can be because of the power spike enemies gets during the 2nd half of maddening.

Strength +2 I just threw in as an option incase you don’t have the time or want to make the time to level her axe rank to D+ for Brigand’s Deathblow. Out of house Bernie would be in a better spot if you recruit her between chapters 3-5. Realistically you’ll get her at chapter 5 if she is the first student you want to recruit.

And I can agree to the consensus that anyone can achieve ORKO thresholds without needing to be at low HP dedicated crit builds not withstanding. Lysithea is a good example of someone who is extremely frail but with magic +2, fiendish blow, a magic battalion and some spirit dust she can OHKO most enemies with low enough res.

She can can also run a low hp vantage + defiant magic build as well for some extra damage but that also means you need to put her in a precarious position which most don’t want to.

  5. There are plenty of good ones that I personally found to be effective.

Dimitri’s Battalion Vantage + Battalion Wrath. I know it’s such an easy pick and not that unprecedented but it works like a charm. Especially on maddening.

One of my personal favorites is Vengeance Bernadetta with Lance Prowess level 5, HP+5, Strength +2, Hit +20, Movement +1 while she is a Paladin. She can also go Bow Knight for chip duty as well as freeze enemies with Encloser and just swap lance for bow prowess.

  6. I guess I can throw in my thoughts on Lapis. She is fine as a unit, could be worth a team slot considering that Framme has a bunch of supports including Alear, Chloe, Anna and Kagetsu so you could use all of them if you want to.

Lapis can be a low investment Hero by equipping her with Leif emblem at least for chapter 9 to inherit build +3. It’s pretty cheap and early for her to get as it will allow her to wield heavier weapons without being weighed down too much.

Alternatively you could just get her up to Bond level 2 with leif to inherit an axe proficiency and wait until Lyn is available for speed +3. Or give her sigurd for a bit in chapters 8 & 9 and feed her enough kills/spend bond fragments until she can get it up to Bond level 6 for the lance proficiency.

After that grab Dual Assist/Dual Assist+ from Lucina since it combos quite nicely with Brave Assist. Skill books from the well can help with the SP.

If you want more of a combat efficient role for her, have her go Wyvern Knight. This class patches up her strength and defense.

Saphir/Lindon stood out as a superb chain. It deals with some heavy stuff in a surprisingly sober fashion, considering the game it's in. In fact, both of them had excellent supports just in general. Too bad IntSys hates old people and wouldn't give them free deployment slots like the final two recruits, so most won't see them.

On the comedic side of things, I don't think anything beat Zelkov and Alear A. I could not believe my ears.

You mean could not *believe* your ears

I'm also concerned about bond fragments - for example, getting DA+ on someone who hasn't bonded with Lucina will cost something like 6000 bond fragments. That ain't peanuts.

That’s a good point. I honestly think it comes down too investing wisely with bond fragments pending on what you’re trying to aim for. Like sometimes something simple like Reposition from Ike is cheap and doesn’t cost you too much to begin with.

That's prolly expensive on the bond fragments. In fact, most of the skills I was thinking of either had high SP costs, high bond fragment costs, or both.

Dual Assist for 1,000 sp isn’t the worst to invest in. Plus the well could spawn sp books if you’re lucky. Plus if you purchased the dlc you get some sp books for free so there is that.

But I can understand if you feel that some skills can be too expensive to inherit despite that.

  10. If I had come up with skills for the royals to inherit, here are my ideas as well as other people’s sets I’ve been noticing.

With DLC included mind you. Also most of the time I’ll be mentioning canter so you’ve been warned.

Alfred: He could use Lifesphere from Tiki since it does combo with self improver. Canter for repositioning. Hector Emblem gives the kid quick riposte. It might help him for at least one round of combat assuming bis hp and defense is high enough to take advantage of it.

Celine: She could also use Divine Pulse + Canter. She can either go Corrin Emblem, Soren Emblem, Chrom/Robin Emblem or Celicia. Maybe Marth?

Alcyrst: Canter and Speed/Dex +4 from Chrom/Robin. He can certainly make great use of Lyn Emblem or even Edelgard/Dimitri/Claude. Or Claude’s S Rank ring for Wind God.

Diamant: Vantage + Wrath with Roy Emblem is one set. You can also give you Pair Up from Corrin Emblem and either Hold Out or Unyielding. You can mix either of these up and give him Ike. Chrom’s S rank ring can boost his chances of triggering Sol by 5%. Might not be the best thing for him though.

Ivy: as others mentioned: Dragonic Hex and Echo from Celicia’s ring. Canter. Speedtaker and Speed/Dex + 4 as well if you want her to snowball.

Fogado: Same as Ivy actually. He can also use Radiant/Long/Silver Bow with Erika emblem for defense piercing purposes.

Timerra: Honestly, speed/dex +4 from Chrom/Robin and Build +4 if you want to help her not be weighed down as much. Sigurd, Hector or Ike Emblem. Roy is also good. Lyn obviously. Even Lucina is a solid choice for dual assist.

Horntensia: Divine Pulse + Canter. Enough said.

  11. Out of all the personal abilities, I find Etie’s, Bunet’s and Fogado’s to be really useless.

The rest are either okay or quite relevant throughout the game.

While this might be a bit too demanding on my part, I kind of wish the dex% chance skills had a higher activation rate by like 0.25 or 0.5 to compensate for some of the character’s low dex growth/stat cap. Diamant would definitely appreciate it since his Successor class suffers from having a dex cap of 22.

This would indirectly make Alcyrst more ridiculous with Luna but I want them to be good damn it 😂

  12. I’ve been watching some anna build guides of late on her being either a sage or mage knight. Both sound quite appealing.

Plus I could have her inherit HP/Luck + passives from Tiki and maybe even speed +5 from Lyn so she can have either Byleth Emblem if she’s a sage or Lyn Emblem if she’s a mage knight. Bonded shield strats with horses seems solid as well.

I’m honestly tempted to go Mage Knight Anna for my eventual maddening run as I would leave the staff uses to Ivy/Horntensia/Pandreo.

  13. Strength/Magic +2 costing 1,000 sp is rather pushing it for me in terms of price. but at the same time I can see why anyone would go as far as that.

Definitely when I go a maddening run one day I’ll have at least a couple of units (probably Alear and Chloe) snag canter. Healing Light deserves a worthy mention to give to your healer. 200 sp is very very cheap and can be helpful I find.

On my hard mode run I gave Alear Avoid +10 which is a nice upgrade for the short and mid term of the game.
