It just reinforces my sense that IS only thinks Eirika is popular because of her association with Ephraim, which is frankly insulting.

She has always lacked her own identity, and this brave alt shows it.  Has Tana's hairstyle (which doesn't complement her character or her looks), put her in Ephraim's clothes and took his lance.  Aside from Byleth, Eirika is probably the MC with the weakest sense of identity in the franchise.

  2. "I'll do this better then my brother ever could".  RIP Ephraim.  People say that Eirika having aspects of other Sacred Stones characters is cool, but I'd argue that there's none of her own identity here.  Biggest disappointment of the 4.

Wasn't expecting Gatekeeper to be a tome user, but the idea they used for him is pretty creative.  No wonder he was able to protect the monastery and survive the entirety of Three Houses.

Marianne looks like an interesting unit, but the art style they went for her sucks.  Not much to say here.

Also don't have much to say about Marth.  He's a Sword Infantry again.

Pelleas being GHB is neat, but I was hoping it would be for a Radiant Dawn banner and not for CYL.  The other core Dawn Brigade members (Edward, Leonardo, and Nolan) are still not in Heroes, and he would've been great for that.

In terms of gameplay, I think Blazing Sword handled it the best. Each MC came with different skills and specialties, making each feel like a separate unit.

I liked how they gave you the option to pick Hector as your leader after beating the game the first time from Eliwood's view.  I'd rather see different perspectives of one story rather then having to pick from 3 routes with their own stories (especially if you're with the same MC).  Kinda reminds me of Sonic 3 & Kunckles that Knuckles' journey while mostly similar to Sonic's, still had enough to be it's own thing without being too different.  I'd like to see IS do that again, if only to take a break from the whole "choose your path" routine.

I also like Gaiden/SoV's approach of controlling multiple armies more then Radiant Dawn's.  Both parties and their journey's felt distinct, while giving both sides more then enough time to be with.  RD on the other hand had the Mercs dominant Chapter 3, while the Dawn Brigade got powercrept, and how Elincia's crew kinda felt like an afterthought.

...And never forget how the Verdent Wind route was a carbon copy of Silver Snow, as the latter was completed by the Devs first.  Poor Claude.

  4. Do you prefer when Fire Emblem has multiple main characters, (Gaiden, Blazing Sword, Radiant Dawn, Three Houses, etc.) or when there's only one (Shadow Dragon, Thracia 776, Binding Blade, Path of Radiance, etc.)?

Which game do you think handled the MC(s) the best in terms of gameplay (regardless of their quality as a unit)?

FE13- Javelins and Hand Axes have garbo Mt, although better accuracy than FE12. Nonetheless, Awakening is crazy enemy phase without grinding to no end for a full team of Galeforce units. And adding in how BIG the player stats can get, the nonexistent Mt of these weapons don't matter, throwing weapons are so damn sexy I'd marry Gregor to a Tomahawk if I could. I get an anime nosebleed just thinking about it!

Awakening also has the Armsthrift skill, which saves weapon durability at a rate of the unit's Luck times 2.  It's the starting skill for the Mercenary class, which is a class not many units have access to.  Forging can help mitigate the weapon's poor stats a bit.

Also, I have no qualms about grinding with DLC if it means I can get someone who's actually useful out of it.

If you can pull it off, then go ahead.  The Stoneborn in Lunatic have Certain Blow, Lunge, and their usual Freeze, while all of the green Faceless (besides the lowest level ones) have Seal Defense, and Heartseeker.  They all gradually get stronger every time you beat a new chapter.

When did I ever say anything about low-manning it?

that doesn't fly when I start with some units that are so bad that it's better for my game and my sanity to drop them like a hot potato ASAP.

Did you already forget you said this?

And it ain't like Niles is that indispensable... given the game has Anna and Nina as well, who's to say that I wouldn't have gotten one, or even both, of them before chapter 10???

I didn't bother getting Anna at any point during my Lunatic run, so I'm unsure how practical that is to try.  Even on lower difficulties, her map is pretty hard if you try to do it early in the game.  As for Nina, getting her in time for Chapter 10 is not possible unless you waste much of your life trying to have Niles support grind with a specific female via random events in My Castle, or use DLC (which all of those maps are harder in Lunatic).

  8. 43 minutes ago, Shadow Mir said:

The problem is, that doesn't fly when I start with some units that are so bad that it's better for my game and my sanity to drop them like a hot potato ASAP. And Conquest throws quite a few of those at me early on (Arthur, Nyx, Niles, Odin).

Then you'll never beat Lunatic.  The number of enemies and the damage they deal will be too much for your other units to handle if you try to low man it.  Effie and Corrin may be good, but not to the point they can handle all that by themselves.  On top of that, the Sky Knights in Chapter 10 prioritize the point you're defending rather then your units, and because of how many there are, Camilla can't get them all on her own.  Oh, and who's the other unit that can take them out easily?  Niles, who has both weapon triangle and effective damage against them.

  9. 50 minutes ago, Shadow Mir said:

One of your defenses for him in your last post is "he can take on mages with help from Odin/Nyx/a servant!" which is not impressive when two of those are lousy units themselves (Odin due to being a Master of None, and Nyx because she has terrible stats aside from magic and speed, which makes her pretty much useless), and the last can do mage-killing better than him due to not being disadvantaged against them as well as Tomebreaker. Hell, a recurring pattern among your defenses for him is either needing more bad units to be used, or needing to have him paired up with a superior unit. Neither of those are good things, last I checked.

In Lunatic, those pair up bonuses matter a lot, and you're not likely to have Tomebreaker on Felicia/Jakob until you're past Conquest's early game (Chapter 13 at the earliest realistically) unless you use DLC to grind.  Plus you're free to bring everyone until you beat Chapter 10 (unless you get Mozu, in which case you'll have to bench one unit), so you might as well make use of what you've got.

I don't know how lucky you have been with him, but pretty much every time I try to give him a chance, his performance is barely passable at best, and fucking atrocious at worst. Which is not something I'm willing to abide in a game as unforgiving as Conquest. Also, I must say, I don't know what possesses you to think I'll do a complete 180 and respect him when I play Conquest on Lunatic, but that sounds both overly optimistic and extremely naive.

It's more knowing how to use him.  His levels (on average) have never been great for me either, and it's usually at Chapter 16 that I either drop him, or make him a more dedicated backpack unit, as he's one of few characters who gives a good chunk of speed to whoever he's backing.

I've beaten Conquest Lunatic before, and while he wasn't a permanent member of my team, he was definitely one of the more useful members early on.  The big thing about Conquest Lunatic is that it wants the player to utilize and pay attention to everything they have available to them, like each units stats, their personal skills, and so on.  Early on, he'll likely be the only unit on your team with good speed and res (unless you picked M!Corrin and Felicia got several res levels), and is part of what the game wants you the utilize.  It's where I got all those examples from that I posted before (though the Archer strat in Chapter 9 is less reliable because of how hard they hit compared to Normal and Hard).

Anyway, I'm neither telling you nor asking you to like him, but I do think you're selling him short.  He definitely has ways to contribute, even if he doesn't stay a part of your team.

...I also really dislike Nina as a character, due to her yaoi fetish (her unhealthy obsession with Male X Male relationships, just saying so no one tries to look that up).

  11. 6 hours ago, Shadow Mir said:

Atlas in Shadows of Valentia comes to mind; he has great attack, but everything else isn't so great (to be fair, though, as this is SoV we're talking about, it is possible for him to overcome his statistical deficiencies due to the way promotion works, and second, aside from dungeons and the final battle, you can use everyone, so I might as well get some use out of him)

Forging also helps with statistical short comings in SoV.  Funny you mention Atlas, I made him into an Archer and forged a Killer Bow for him.  Since his Base Strength is so high, him getting a crit meant death for most enemies who isn't a Baron or one of those armored terrors.  Still has to mind his distance due to poor speed, and his accuracy could be better.

6 hours ago, Shadow Mir said:

Niles - he has great speed, but his poor attack power makes it such that I'd rather use Nina instead, because she can actually damage things that do not have wings or low defense.

I've lost count of how many times you've bashed this poor guy.  Sure, he's not worth using in Revelation due to his horrible join time and how that route gives you all the royals, but in Conquest, he's handy for the entire first half of the route.  Has solid base Res, so despite having triangle disadvantage, he won't have much trouble against mages (he and Odin can handle all the mages in chapter 8 by themselves when working together).  Chapter 9, he can take on the archers around the boss when paired with Effie and adjacent to Elise (gets a heaping plus 7 defense and 3 Strength from those two).  In Chapter 10, the ballista on the right side has his name written all over it, and he and Odin can finish anyone he weakens with it.  He can also shoot down any pegs who try to take the objective.  Chapter 11, he can take on the ninja on the left side with either Beruka or Effie's help, or he can take on the mages with help from Odin, Nyx, or one the servants.  He's also still the only locktouch unit you'll reasonably have by this point.  ...I'd give more examples but this is kinda long already.  Last thing I'll say for now is that you'll learn to appreciate him once you play Conquest on Lunatic.

I'm not going to say too much more on this, but I hate the female Byleth's design with the fury of an angry Asura, and thus this is meaningless to me.

I don't like her base design either, but I wouldn't go so far to say I hate it.  Her Enlightened One design one the other hand, is genuinely terrible.  ...We actually agreed on something, what madness is this?

  13. 13 hours ago, lenticular said:

Why would you even want that, though? Is there some sort of weird build that I don't know that relies on having both Apothecary and Oni Savage skills? Or is it just one of those things that you theoretically can't do even though you'd never actually want or need to?

There's no build that utilizes both of those class lines to my knowledge, though having skills like Lancebreaker and Death Blow be easily missable for M!Corrin hurts (moreso the latter).  And you technically CAN do this, but like I said: it requires picking both a specific talent and specific wife.

12 hours ago, Shadow Mir said:

it's not like he's missing out on much by not having access to Oni Savage.

Lancebreaker and Death Blow, because missing Oni Savage means you also miss Blacksmith and Oni Chieftain, as no other base class gives you either of these.

12 hours ago, Shadow Mir said:

I don't know about you, but I don't think the flying classes are good enough to warrant the copious amounts of faculty training you need to do to get there...

You only need C Lances and D Flying to get Pegasus Knight.  Getting her to D Flying before reaching LV 10 should be easy, though you might cut it close for Lances.  Falcon Knight being available at LV 30 should be more then enough time to get her Lance rank to A and Flying to B+.  C in Swords is a complete non-issue for F!Byleth.

Come to think of it, why do RPGs revolves around a quartet, anyways?

Because forming a soild team of 3 is too easy by comparison.  All you'd need is an attacker, a tank, and a healer.  Having played both Bravely Default and Bravely Second (not 2), I could never decide on what to do with one of my 4 characters, as all-rounders suck in those games.

Though occasionally, mostly due to some stupid gendered BS, I'm somewhat hindered in my goals (still salty that in Heroes of Light and Shadow males get a much more robust class selection, especially when you beat the game and get a New Game+).

It's also the only instance in Fire Emblem where the male avatar is viewed as better then the female.

M!Robin loses to F!Robin because he can't get Galeforce (Awakening's best skill), which is locked to a Female Class so he can never get it.

M!Corrin loses to F!Corrin because the only way he can get all possible classes AND all possible units is to make his talent Oni Savage, then have him marry Midori for Apothecary.  F!Corrin has no such restrictions as she can get all the classes by A-Supporting all the women, and the only unit she could marry who would cost you a unit is Rahjat.  M!Corrin needs to marry a 2nd gen unit or a Corrinsexual in order to get everyone. To me, that's more dumb then the M!Kris nonsense because of how specific that is.

M!Byleth loses to F!Byleth because flyers are busted in Three Houses, and F!Byleth gets Pegasus Knight at LV 10, while M!Byleth has to wait until LV 20 for Wyvern Rider because they thought bringing back gender restrictions for classes was a good idea (which no it wasn't).  Plus F!Byleth gets Sylvain out of house for free, whereas M!Byleth gets no one for free.  Those are also both dumb.

  16. If it's Colorless Wind...  maybe Soren?  I don't expect or want that to happen, but he would fit that combo.  They've had other characters with close ties to an MC become legendaries (Julia and Lilina, who also happen to be both mages), so while I think it's extremely unlikely, I don't think it's impossible.

    25 minutes ago, Naoshi said:

-If we get CYL3  refines next month, this mean we aren't getting Micaiah as legendary probably until next year but if we don't then we can have her here.

I'm still surprised Sigurd got a Legendary before her.  Truely thought he would be the last MC to get a Legendary.  If we don't count the Avatars who got one of their genders in as a Legendary, it's just Micaiah left (and Kris, depending on who you ask).

  17. What I didn't like (mostly little things, so won't be the same format as above):  No combat forcast DURING combat, weapon experience not being viewable (though you can still see your weapon ranks), not many obtainable S-Rank weapons, and removing skills means you lose them completely.

Overall verdict:  I very much enjoyed Path of Radiance.  Oddities aside, I enjoyed the gameplay, story, and most of the characters, and look forward to playing this game much more in the future.

  18. For reference, I played the game on Easy first (I always do the easiest difficulty first despite my experience with the series), and am currently at chapter 15 on Normal.

What I liked:  The Base.  Having played Radiant Dawn before Path of Radiance, I've already experienced how the base operates, and it's my favorite integration of in-between chapter activity in the series.  Being able to check up one everyone and their inventories while in a more controlled environment feels refreshing, while remaining natural.

Ike.  I haven't decided if he's my favorite MC in the series, but he's definitely up there.  I like his more blunt personality, not being afraid to say what's on his mind even if the timing is not always appropriate (his anger towards Sanaki for her treatment towards Elincia was a highlight of his character for me), and I like his more simple outlook on things.  Him taking time to talk with his comrades via base conversations was also enjoyable, between being insightful, his willingness to listen, having funny moments (the end of his one with Volke was great, and when he tries to hide from Amiee), and his no nonsense moments (strong-arming Sothe when he wouldn't talk and dealing with the garbage known as Makalov).  Overall great character.

The early game.  Having your only units be members of the Greil Mercenaries until chapter 9 was a great call.  Gives you plenty of time to figure out who you want to use in the long term without bombarding you with too many new units, and grants the opportunity for everyone within the group to have some moments.  They're easily the best starting crew in the franchise in my opinion.

Promotions without needing Master Seal (Level 20+1): Bring back this option.  Having a capped unit who can't premote because of not having a Master Seal is never fun.

...Gonna break this post into two.  This one's pretty long.

Think long and hard about what you post and why, because whining about my humor, especially when I'm joking with someone who's familiar with my humor is in extremely poor taste.

Also, if all you're going to do is whine about women in Heroes, then go elsewhere.

Sunwoo already mentioned that, thank you very much (though not before I jabbed your humor).

You do realize I have used this site in more practical/meaningful ways (and more frequently then my whining), right?  Gathering opinions from others on certain subjects, looking for advice on things I'm either curious about or have yet to beat, things I believe were the intended purpose of this site.  Besides that, I've already gone on record to say that I'm not sorry for my bitching about the sexist favoritism towards women Heroes does, what they do is truly absurd.

With all that being said, what happens with me is in your hands.  You could be rid of me, or you can deal with it until things straighten out, as I won't back down on the matter until they do.

@eclipse A poor attempt at humor.  It's no secret at this point that if there's a group of 3 characters and only one of them is a woman, IS will pick the woman.  Bors and Barth are still not in Heroes despite Gwendolyn being a launch unit, Ewan and Ross took a while to make it after Amelia joined, and now this.

Jakob, Felicia, Gunter, Siegbert and Kaze all make good use of Lodestar's Dual Guardsman as it synergizes with their personal skills.

Felicia can't get Dual Guardsman as she can't become a Lodestar and there's no manual for the skill.  I could see Jakob in particular being a good candidate like Darnonius mentioned, if he marries Female Corrin and you're dedicated to having him be a backpack unit.

Very true, though it's still good to hear recommendations.

  22. I'd rather have more New Heroes banners instead of non-holiday special banners, but at least it's mostly characters who are getting their first alt, or weren't in the game yet.  The duo is an odd pair (even moreso that it's Hinoka as the lead rather then Cowmilla), yet still disappointing that it's both girls again.  Seeing pirates here likely means there'll be another ninja banner next month.
