  1. I play competitively, too. I'm more interested in VGC, and then OU and UU both before Ubers, though. -Getting +2 requires prediction/a free turn -Using Shadow Force gives the opponent a free turn. If you're landing this on a Giratina, the opponent is sacrificing it or it's their last mon. Or they misplayed. This is still a huge obvious setback that makes Shadow Force pretty shit. -Funny. I seem to recall Blissey seeing plenty of use. Or when you play Ubers, do you only use and see exclusively-Uber pokemon? Not that Normal Arceus isn't a huge threat that every team needs to consider. -Let's not forget that even without a normal type on board, there are plenty of things around that resist Ghost that can be switched in when you so generously announce the move you're using in advance. -There are plenty of Outrage/Draco Meteor users out there that can take care of Giratina without giving your opponent a free turn and always explicitly telling them what move you're using before it hits. And nothing is immune to those attacks yet. Fairies aren't around yet
  2. Basically this. Like, Integrity said, it's ultimately subjective material that some people are going to respond positively to and others aren't. Comes down to what one values in a narrative and preferences and such. Although I will comment on how a lot of people are saying that because Awakening was going to be the last game in the series it needed to end on a happy note. For the final entry in a series, I'd especially prefer a bittersweet approach, because if you knew you were playing the last entry in a series that is bittersweet. Not that it matters anymore since Awakening raked in the money, honey.
  3. Completely disagree. And this is why I prefer the endings in FE11/12. A lot of the best narratives ever made do not include happy endings. I actually rather prefer endings that aren't so happy.
  4. Yeah, you're definitely not alone on that. Had Chrom make the kill my first file thinking shit would go down if it wasn't him or the avatar, and then they give you the "final blow" choice and I realized who kills him on the map, itself, didn't actually matter.
  5. Pride was last weekend, not this weekend. We're on vacation/just running the entertainment industry, currently. The world can wait.
  6. In-game, it's irrelevant (5 pp is disappointing though). You can do and use whatever you want. Against a person, you're basically giving your opponent at least one free turn, telling them what you plan to do, and letting them react accordingly. It's terribad. What good is breaking through protect/detect when there's a type with an immunity to it?
  7. Said difference goes both ways, though. There are some people who see the avatar as a self-insert, and because of that, don't want the death that they chose for their character and all the impact that comes with that to be sullied by being brought back like that. I'm actually more attached to and moved by Tidus than I am the avatar despite the latter being a self-insert because the former gets a LOT more development with Yuna than whomever the Avatar marries with just four support conversations, usually. But that's neither here nor there. Ending of FFX didn't have Tidus welcomed by someone. It implies he doesn't cease to exist, but it's still very ambiguous. A lot like how not knowing if the avatar still exists and thinking they're out there somewhere and simply having to hope that they are is ambiguous and open-ended... until Chrom greets you.
  8. I'm well aware. And you win. I do really hope Dark and Ghost types get some better moves to work with, though.
  9. Killing off the Avatar you may have developed an attachment to through the entire game isn't already memorable? You what game has an ending that I loved? FFX (before FFX-2 existed, mind you). I can't watch the final cutscene to that game without crying. And that's what I was reminded of when the Avatar sacrificed himself to prevent a threat from ever harming the world again but having to say goodbye to all those people you've developed "bonds" with. It's not an explicitly joyous message, but it's bittersweet and far more moving and powerful, I think. And then the Avatar showed up again and I got reminded of FFX-2 instead of just FFX, and while the bookend got to me, I was NOT pleased.
  10. inb4AirshipCanon As much as I like book ends, and as potentially powerful as the ending can be when Chrom welcomes you back, I also totally agree and think they should have kept the Avatar dead. It cheapens the ending, I think. SOOOO much.
  11. I often forget Shadow Force exists since it's exclusive to Giratina (and an event Arceus iirc). Plus, taking two turns to attack is fail.
  12. What you did there: I see it. Ghost typing: denying you STAB on anything above 80 Base Power for five generations so far. Steel typing: home of Meteor Miss and Miss Tail for your strongest STAB options. So yeah... for a presumably offensive pokemon, as thrilled as I am with this typing (Steel type with Fighting immunity Go Go GO), I'm not going to have high hopes for it's viability until I know it has a decent stat spread and legitimately good STAB options. Ghost and Dark are the ONLY types that don't have any moves above 80 Base Power (and they have the same coverage; how great is that?). Physically oriented Ghost types especially have it bad. Really hoping that changes with this next generation. Frankly, I don't expect this 'mon to be very good without better STAB options than what exist through Gen V. Great defensive typing, though. Steel Spinblocker Master Race? On a Sword ;P
  13. More, or less, than the Sumia hate. Stop getting irked. Start getting Erked.
  14. I usually like to keep people in their default class trees, especially when they have a custom colors for the promoted classes, but it depends on the character and what I want them to do. I actually like Lissa's structured skirt, though I have her as a Sage. Reminds me of some stuff by Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler. The more FE reminds me of such things, the better, as far as I'm concerned. Favorite class outfits include male Dark Mages and Sorcerers (LOVE the use of sheer for these classes, female counterparts as well; very chic although the female Sorceror look veers into 'witchy'), Fighters, Barbarians, and Berserkers. Show that skin, boys! Dark Mage, Sorcerer, and Fighter in particular have BDSM influences in them which I especially appreciate. Also a big fan of the Trickster outfit and the armor for Knights and Generals (armor in this game in general). I also think the structural shoulder armor for a lot of flying classes is cool looking. Speaking of flyers, I LOVE the open back on Cherche's costume, but don't like the way what's visible of her legs shows; doesn't look good. Not a big fan of the bows in Tiki's default outfit either. Not a fan of Tiki's default costume (bow placement is lazy and doesn't look good), Chrom's costume, the Hero outfit (most unfortunately), and the use of fur in any class featuring it. Or cravats, for that matter (Basilio being the only exception). Also not a fan of pots as helmets. You'll always look ridiculous, Donnel, sorry. Good thing I'm not a fan.
  15. Most people agree, myself included, that Lethality is a bad skill because its activation rate is too low and other combat skills will almost always get the job done just as well, but more frequently. There are some people that love it for its flashiness, however. And it does have its place on StreetPass teams. Also, Volke29: try not to double post.
  16. Uh... it's hardly extreme. Virtually everything can be measured into a scale of efficiency. Your 'not wanting to waste time grinding' is an example of efficiency compared to 'wasting time grinding' because the former is more efficient than the latter, whether you'd hate to ever have your name next to "efficiency" or not. Like Espinosa's post said, you can have forms of efficiency that don't consider turns and such. How much real time you actually spend on something is another way of looking at, and measuring, efficiency. The early XII level cap trick (the one where you can walk away from the game, right?) is arguably far more an extreme example of efficiency than the example you made for Fire Emblem, in fact, because the time you have to spend observing the game to level up is reduced to nothing, saving you a lot of time in your life for doing other things.
  17. I hate Walhart too! Yay! Who says all the hate as of late is bad? It brings people together Loving the FE10 love in this thread. It's not my favorite, and it has it problems, sure, but I find it one of the most fun FEs to actually play.
  18. That is a example of wanting to be (comparatively more) efficient. I totally agree about the flexibility thing, though. Even though I'll always make her a Paladin, as will many, there's a significant number of people who don't love themselves prefer her as a General. And even some who like her Super Trainee class, so having different class options which are valued by vastly different mindsets is a plus.
  19. Gameplay: FE5 Reviving a lot of these mechanics in future games would be great, I think. Story: FE4 (Jugdral in general, though, so shout-out to FE5) Love the scale and presentation of it. Music: FE13 Because duh. Characters: indeterminable I like and dislike plenty of characters from every FE. Difficulty: indeterminable I don't play them nearly often enough but I was going to pick FE11/12, because the variety of difficulties to choose from combined with a lack of skills that can let you BS your way through enemies if you get lucky with activation rates is very respectable. Conversely, making fewer and fewer units viable (and especially making classes unviable due to caps) is not, I then realized. So fuck it; can't decide.
  20. Yeah, I definitely wasn't referring to you. A lot of your opinions are legitimately unpopular (I know I disagree with a lot of it). But that's a good thing in a way. Diversity. But when people are saying "I hate {insert commonly hated character/pairing here]!" or some other popular notion, in my mind, I'm thinking "Oh, Miss Thang! What world do you think you live in where that's unpopular?" I've said it before, but if there is a sequel to Awakening and it establishes some canon pairings, the world would burn. I actually kind of want to see that.
  21. Am I the only person amused by how many people are posting rather popular opinions as though they're unpopular? Is that an unpopular opinion? Hmmm... -I'd be fine with Pair Up returning without too many tweaks. -Nuns with axes aren't cool. -I like the Bow Knight class in this game (no idea whether many other people do or not, too). -Ike/Soren. Wait, wrong game. Priam's existence totally doesn't sink it though. -Shallow/gimmicky characterization doesn't ALWAYS mean bad. Just usually. -I don't like Sully. I realize there are other people who dislike her too, though. Not sure how popular/unpopular she is in NA, tbh. -I don't think this game is very oversexualizing or sexist to females when it comes to costuming. -Generic male Dark Mage/Sorc outfits FTW. Is this an unpopular opinion? No idea.
  22. If the next Fire Emblem game is somehow a sequel to Awakening, just watch it establish canon pairings the way FE5 did. And watch the world burn. Especially if people are forced to admit Chrom/Sumia turned out to be canon all along.
  23. Finn in FE4 in general is weird because he's around for both generations the way he is and he's definitely not a Jeigan for the first four maps you have with him. And if you raise him to BE a Jeigan to Leaf and Nanna when he reappears, can you really call him a Jeigan when you had to raise him to that point? Especially when if you don't raise him he's definitely not going to be serving as a Jeigan. >.> Looks like he's stretched all over the place, when you stop to look at him.
  24. Perhaps, just from a story perspective, that is all Dagda has in common with Jeigan, but you're selling Eyvel short by saying that of her. She serves as a guiding and even parental figure to Leaf, too. Her value disappears more similarly to the original Jeigan than Finn, as well, since she literally disappears. Her and Dagda also have the growths to claim to be Jeigans; moreso when compared to Finn. I've never actually seen someone call Finn the "Jeigan" of FE5 before. It's an interesting angle to take, but Eyvel and Dagda are the ones seen by most people as the Jeigans of the game, and it is for gameplay reasons.
  25. Bloody good luck to anyone trying to find a copy of PoR not online. I never had a GC and bought a Wii eventually, and wound up playing Radiant Dawn first; could NEVER find a copy of PoR in stores (still never have, years later) and the only reason I have one now is because I traded my copy of Sacred Stones to an acquantience for it and eventually lost touch with this person (I got the winning side of that trade thanks to emulators). Shadow Dragon is an okay game. Pretty different compared to all of Awakening's bells and whistles, but a lot of the core mechanics are still there, and some things will actually be more powerful in that game (Warp staves, anyone?).
