  1. Do not fucking argue with this. Even though my family avoided the internment camps, the lingering sentiment after the war did a lot of damage, which has lasted to this day. Also, I think I've told TC to cut that shit out before.

In other words, drop the point.

It's important to point out racism when it actually happens eclipse, but its even more important to understand the context of a person's speech/writing to fully articulate when they are using racial slurs and when they are use words that maybe misconstrued as racist when in actuality said words where not used as a pejorative.

  2. It wasn't back in the old days but it's been considered an offensive term ever since World War II since many government propaganda have been using as a racial slur to pin and offend the Japanese during that time. Not to mention the amount of Japanese people who were rounded up and thrown and abused during World War II were legal citizens of the country they immigrated to left a sour taste in their minds and it still holds to this day.

Last time I checked most decent people understood that the word Jap is a racial slur, along with the fact that PuffPuff wasn't using the word "Jap" as a pejorative in the context of her responses on this thread.

  3. For someone who is desperate to play the Japanese version, you've managed to be pretty offensive here. "Jap" is considered a racial slur. Don't do it again.

Or it could just be a abbreviation, instead of saying the Japanese version of the game one could simply saying/write the Jap. version for the sake of brevity. People do it all the time. Instead of saying the United States version of a game, one can simply say the U.S. version.

  4. I thought you just said you didn't speak French

In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of the chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well.

  5. The only offensive one AFAIK is the wedding dress.

I also think that the removal of all the grover model aspects from the game helps to weaken the authenticity that TMS is going for in exploring the Japanese entertainment industry. What is also harmed by this change is Chapter 2's scenario, which doesn't make as much sense when compared to the original Japanese version.

  6. Not anymore. The world is changing and Nintendo is embracing different markets and forms of entertainment. They've already stated interest in movies and amusement parks, which definitely have potential of bringing in big money.

Well yeah, that much is obvious. I have no doubt they'll do just that, though. Heck, just keep adding the other Pokemon Gens and you have content for years.

We'll have to wait and see then if these endeavors prove successful for Nintendo.

  7. I guess we'll see. Nintendo can sometimes be so unpredictable that you can never tell what they can or will do in the future. And nowadays they have so many different sources of income that go beyond console and handheld gaming that subsidizing games from other companies look like a small side project.

Heck, they might just use all their profits from Pokemon Go to fund all their next gen of games.

The problem is that even with these extra sources of revenue Nintendo's software and hardware sales is still what brings in the big bucks. As for Pokémon Go the developers will have to continue to create new content and updates to smooth out any problems the game has in order to for it to remain popular.

  8. Unpopular opinion warning, if you can't handle people's opinions in a mature fashion, I highly suggest you stop reading.

I'd prefer if there's no Fire Emblem character/story/etc. influence. IMO the game is held back by Fire Emblem's weak story and them being scared to hurt the image of the Fire Emblem series (which is part of why they had all the incarnations of characters be weird and everything be not-canon). They have a really great game going on here but the FE references and inspirations are more of a bonus, I'd prefer if it could somehow become its own hardcore JRPG series independent of FE (though I like things like the weapon triangle-based weaknesses and FE-based classes/mirages/weapons, of course, so it wouldn't be quite that simple...).

I'd prefer it doubly so if they were to choose to get mirages from games like FE13 (again) and FE14. They'd be alienating all the people who hated Fates and the direction Fire Emblem is going into. As it is TMS#FE missed out on a lot of sales due to the odd direction it had and only focusing on FE11/13, the former being somewhat poorly received and not well-liked and the latter being highly controversial.

To me, a TMS sequel would basically be corrupted by having to deal with the crap of Fire Emblem, and I don't expect them to start making FE games I think are good (and even if they did it's too late to fix the abomination that was Fates—your personal opinion may differ, but the point is that it's a controversial game that a lot of people passionately dislike), so the only solution in my mind is to remove FE from the equation and keep what's good about the game.

I don't expect this to happen, but eh. It's hard to get good games IRL, so at least let me dream, lol.

I agree that this game would have been better off divested of the FE license, but if a sequel was ever to be made it would be important for the developers to focus on making a better story then that which is on offer in TMS. As far as I'm concerned the story was nothing more then a watered down pastiche of Persona 4's plot without any of that game's depth or charm.

  9. Read the article again, because that's not what Miyamoto is saying. He's saying that they can't recoup costs if they ONLY release stuff that sells around 300k units. They obviously have to release stuff that sells 2 million, but that doesn't mean stuff that sells lower than that can't be released as well. If we took the "2 million" statement to heart then it would be nothing but Mario, Zelda, Smash, Pokemon... and Splatoon, I guess.

Yes and this is why we'll never see a sequel to TMS # FE because it hasn't even sold 300,000 units. The feeling that I get from reading this article is that Nintendo will be focusing on their first party I.P.s moving forward, the ones that will actually make them money. It wouldn't be sustainable for them to continue to release games like they did during the Wii U's lifespan that didn't sell very well and thus didn't garner a large install base for the console. I believe that someone was once quoted saying that if a Fire Emblem game was made for the Wii U it would have to sell at least 700,000 units to make a healthy profit. If this is what a FE game had to sell in order to be profitable I get the feeling that TMS would have to pull in similar numbers, which it hasn't done. I think the days of Nintendo subsidizing small games maybe coming to a close, based solely on the fact that creating console games is very expensive. Indie games maybe able to thrive on a small budget, but if Nintendo wants to stay in competition with Sony and Microsoft they have to develop a lot games with the same standards as other triple a games on the market that will make them a good profit.

  10. The real X factor is going to be Kimishima and his philosophy towards software. Iwata was willing subsidize more niche products to make their ecosystem more attractive rather than relying exclusively on hit software. If Kimishima chooses to follow that path I think it's a question of when and not if TMS2 happens.

Just a little update on the sales of TMS # FE and Nintendo's marketing and financial mindset moving forward.

According to ZhugeEX, the game only managed to sell 50,00 units during the month of June in the US. If we combined that with the other data we currently know of from the Japanese, European, and Australian markets, it would seem this game has only sold what I estimate to be between 150,000-200,000 copies worldwide. This makes it unlikely that we'll ever get a sequel to TMS, especially based on Shigeru Miyamoto's comments on wanting to create software that sells at least 2 million copies a pop and how Nintendo can't recoup the money that they invest in products that only sell around 300,00 copies in Japan, let alone globally.

  11. ironically i just suspended op for making the same kind of post i suspended him for, in the same thread, that led to him making this thread

look forward to another one in two weeks i guess

Actually InT-egrity the reason why I started this chat in the first place is because one time in the Chatroom the feed stated that you had left while the side bar showed that you were still logged in. Thus, I came to the logical conclusion that all the moderates on this site are machines.

  12. So why are you complaining? That's one way to bypass the censorship imposed on the game and if it makes you happy, good for you. The game has been terrific so far for me, with colorful characters and splendid gameplay, and the typical RPG elements of running around and doing errands also adds to the enjoyment. Being unable to see Tsubasa and Kiria in bikini or Itsuki and Touma in shorts does not detract any of the mentioned elements so I have no problems at a

  13. I think that at least during the time of FE4 and FE5 the developers were willing to try more risky and daring story ideas then what is found in later games. That being said, I think the games that came out even after Kaga's departure are of better quality then most other JRPG series on the market today.

  14. The real X factor is going to be Kimishima and his philosophy towards software. Iwata was willing subsidize more niche products to make their ecosystem more attractive rather than relying exclusively on hit software. Fair enough Hardin, although I'm still highly skeptical.
  15. About the new stuff :

    1. Lots of mirages would make the balancing of the game pretty difficult. And I feel like if they put too much mirages, just like if they implement it like they are demons or personas, it will make all of them feel less special. Having different ways to purify them is interesting though.

    2. The mirage-exclusive items, carnage forms etc... isn't a bad idea in my opinion, but as I said previously, having multiple mirages per characers plus having tons of them and specific items for each of them would be a tremendous amount of work, balancing, designing, etc... I'm not sure they'll be able to do that with a game as focused and well done as #FE currently is.

    3. "The Side Stories are already a really good "Social Link" experience" was what I thinking when I played last night, and even if you don't do a lot of things (mostly walking back and forth multiple points) it's already more interactive than in Persona. But of course, if they can improve it, they should go for it.

    About the improvements :

    1. Songs aren't easy to do, but if they manage to do more with the same level of quality of #FE, it would be great. Seeing more sides of the entertainment industry theme of the game and more interactions with it would definitely be a great addition, but this is a turn based RPG first, so they must be careful if they decide to integrate things like that.

    2. I don't mind the current number of active party members during battle personally, the ability to switch them without spending your turn makes me feel that 3 is already fine.

    3. There are already a lot of them, but more customisation options is almost always better I agree.

I had a feeling that your contrition wouldn't really last, can't say I'm surprised. And funny that you mention something like that a few days (or is it already weeks ?) after something like Mirror's Edge Catalyst was released.

There are more reasons to make games than that (even if it's indeed the primary), we are talking about Nintendo here, not Ubisoft, Activision or EA. They already have funded multiple projects that obviously weren't going to sale great just because they needed more games (a few of example, The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, both Platinum games, and we know how well Platinum games sell... Fatal Frame 5, Devil's Third, etc...).

This one has really passionate fanbase (enough to fill a concert hall twice the same day at least), reviewed really well both in Japan and the West, and all people on the project are interested in a sequel, that's much more than what I can say for most of the other games I referred earlier (not having anything against them though).

I can't say that you are wrong for saying that it is unlikely though, but there are definitely reasons if that ever happens.

Its fine that the staff are passionate about making a sequel, but again this doesn't mean it'll happen. Even if the game is getting alot of accolades and has a passionate fan base, if said audience is not big enough in Nintendo's eyes they'll never green light the creation of another game. It happened a Code Name S.T.E.A.M., and unless TMS # FE miraculously sells over half a million copies worldwide, the same thing will happen to this fledgling I.P.
  16. Mostly because sales is not the only thing that can determine the potential of a new IP, and in the specific case of TMS #FE it had a lot of things going against it at the time of release. It was a game that started development very early on the Wii U cycle, but Nintendo had essentially lost hope on the system by the time it was finished, so it was released on a system that was already on the way out (and with news on the successor already revealed), it got a terrible release date in Japan, and it got little to no promotion. This is stuff that could be fixed on a potential sequel.

But now that I think about it, you know what I could see happening? An enhanced port. A "Definite Edition" for NX with a few extra stuff that also fixes some of the game's minor problems. It could definitely help the series expand to a larger audience and raise the chances of a sequel.

On topic: I definitely like the idea of using Fates characters for a Rival School-setup, specially if the game is about joining one of the schools and that choice doesn't happen until the near end. It could lead to some interesting stuff.

It all boils down to simple economics. Nintendo created a product which did not have a great demand on the market and thus it didn't turn a profit. I can see Nintendo possibly remastering TMS # FE on the NX or a future system, however I still think it will be a good number of years before such a risk is taken. Before such a time, this game would have to gain a large enough cult following for Nintendo to deem that there is a large enough preexisting audience that will buy their product which in turn means they'll make a healthy profit.
