  1. For those interested, there seems to be some preliminary sales numbers available here. I do not know how reliable they are but it could be something interesting to talk about with regards to the future of the Echoes series: http://www.siliconera.com/2017/04/26/week-sales-fire-emblem-echoes-retells-gaiden/ Edit: Did not realize there was a pre-existing thread for this. Apologies.
  2. By any chance, would anyone happen to have the Bowfaire skill on their Corrin? My thanks in advance.
  3. You've my thanks. I did not realize how few people must use that skill.
  4. Does anyone have bow breaker on their avatar? I cannot find a castle with it for the life of me.
  5. Don't put words in my mouth, I beg. I suggested nothing beyond exactly what I said. Any misinterpretations on your part are no fault of my own. Never once in the entirety of my posts did I come anywhere near to saying that my opinion was the objective one and as such, no one else should bother posting. If that's what I wanted to say, I assure you, I would have just done so rather than mince words. It's almost as if you deliberately twisted my words so as to suit your own purposes. As I stated previously, the goal of my post was to remind some folks that fire emblem is a fantasy medieval game and as such, need not necessarily adhere to modern day practicalities regarding designs and aesthetics. Since the amount of armor a character dons has no effect on said character's stats, heck, even if it did, characters wear they wear first and foremost due to their designer simply wishing them to wear it. No further reasoning beyond that. Once more, as I've previously stated, you speak as if you are the defining authority on what is and isn't good character design. Such things are subjective, my own opinions included, and should not be stated as if they are objective truth. Its one thing to say that you didn't personally care for a design. Its quite another to definitively claim it bad. I...I am not even sure what to make of your eldritch comment, so I'll just tune that bit out. You're taking my words out of context. Refer back to what you stated beforehand. You stated as if it were a hard truth, rather than your own personal opinion, that certain aesthetic choices were bad design. I was drawing attention to the fact that this a flawed foundation to stand upon as no one person has the authority to decide which aesthetic options are bad without exception. That is it. How one managed to draw from that, that suddenly my opinion was more valuable than yours, once again which is something I never came close to saying, is beyond my comprehension. Sling mud? Good sir, at what point did I ever throw an insult your way? At no point did I ever make mention of your character or capabilities or anything of the sort. I drew attention to way you phrased a statement. Simply put. Nothing more and nothing less. If you hadn't noticed, I've been practicing such the entire while. Once more, at no point did I suggest that my opinion held more weight than your own. The entire point of my original post was to draw attention to fact that there needn't always be a reason behind a character's appearance. Sometimes a character looks a certain way for no other reason than the fact that their creators desired such a thing. Whether or not such a thing would hinder thier combat abilities is largely a moot point as such things are not factored into the gameplay experience.
  6. I'm going to go ahead and assume that this fun bit of reading is directed at me. At what point did I ever say that one was not permitted to criticize what the characters wear? The primary point of my posting was to remind some that as this is a video game, and not one based off of realistic scenarios, designs will favor stylistic, aesthetic choices by their creators over practicality. Just because a class has always looked one way by no means dictates that it must stay that way. At the end of the day, the characters created for this series will look the way they do because thier creators willed it to be so. There exists no further reasoning than that. Sexism or any other imagined slight. I am just going to go ahead and ignore the last bit you typed there as what constitutes 'terrible design', is an entirely subjective one as I stated previously. No one here is the standing authority on what makes something good, especially not yourself. It would do us all some good if some folks could remember that they speak solely for themselves and not for everyone else.
  7. Sometimes, I feel like the inhabitants of this site forget that this is a video game, based around style and fun and not meant to be a super realistic experience. If this were a realistic war game of sorts, then I can see why one would argue revealing clothing lending itself to illness and the like. But Fire Emblem is not that game. It is not now, nor has it ever been a hyper realistic war simulator. Characters wear what they wear because their designers wanted them to wear that. That's it. Beginning, middle, end. There is no further reason beyond that. Its a design choice, plain and simple. Whether or not this lends to increased protection or any number of other things is a meaningless conversation as those things are not factored into the gameplay experience (meaning, a unit bearing heavier armor design wise does not necessarily have more defense that the unit running around in a shirt and shorts). Whether or not said design is 'good,' is subjective at best. I for one like them just fine as they are and would not change a thing.
  8. Its 4 am here (and I'm breaking lurker code by posting), so you'll have to forgive the abrupt nature of this post. Though I'll expand in future posts if someone likes, my personal grievance with Phoenix mode is that, from my perspective anyway, it demonstrates a complete, and utter unwillingness to learn how to play the game the way it was meant to played. People may claim to want to see the story or preserve their characters but are completely unwilling to put in the time and effort needed to secure said rewards for themselves. They seem to just want all of the goodies without having to endure the toil formerly required to attain them. That mentality just sort of saddens me as what makes Fire Emblem such a treasure for me is the experience of overcoming the obstacles the game throws in one's path (and not just overcoming it, but learning to overcome it in such a way that all characters survive the encounter). Without these obstacles requiring one to consider their every move, the reward of character development and story progression is significantly diminished and its value is largely lost. Alas, at the end of the day, people will play how they like. Sure, it won't affect my experience at all, but still, I suppose I wish people were more willing to learn how to play rather than go through the experience in a mode where the game practically hands you victory on a silver platter just for showing up. But that's just one random internet dweller's opinion. Do with it what you will.
  9. Much as Sw33t suggests, I have reason to believe that you are prone to making grand sweeping generalizations about things. An exception rather than a rule? If you'd like, I can gather up hordes of video games that do nothing to portray sexuality, scantily clad women, or anything of the sort nor do they advertise as such. In this case you seem to be assuming that people are not intelligent enough to look beyond a surface level analysis to truly gauge exactly what makes a video game, well, a video game. Those who are dissuaded with this much ease, likely never had a very high opinion of video games to begin with and were not likely to ever change that thought process regardless of what information they were presented with. Once again, these are hardly the opinion's you'd want to be listening to in the first place, regarding pretty much anything. I'll humor you for a bit though. Let's imagine that videogames are as you say and advertise scantily clad women and sex in everything they do. Would they really be so different from any other form of entertainment? Namely, movies or tv shows? Honestly, look at the recent string of movie trailers for some of the harder hitting movies and tell me that they aren't sexualized as you suggest. Do people form entire opinions off of those alone? No, they don't because it's been proven time and again that even if said movies do contain said elements, they are but a singular aspect of an entire experience and often, a very tiny portion of it. If we're going to begin this everything is overly sexualized march, we may as well target the entire world while we're at it.
  10. Why would a person in this situation base their entire opinion of the video game culture off of a singular video game? That's like seeing a pornographic picture somewhere and basing their entire opinion of art off that. Or, even better, watching a single R rated movie and deciding that all movies must obviously be like that. Perhaps I'm reading your post wrong but if not, this isn't the kind of person you'd trust to make a sound judgement off anything anyway.
  11. @eCut: Thank you for your assistance. I'll be sure to look those over in due time and hopefully discover the error behind my ways. It is always refreshing to have someone cordially and respectfully respond to questions us newer users might have. Unfortunately, I don't take to these things as swiftly as others and often find myself puzzling over thigns for weeks if I don't stop by one of these forums to request aid. Once again, you have my thanks. @Nintenlord: That's exactly what I'm trying to do. Learn the proper tools, hence my requesting of the proper procedure to use in the very first post. I had reached an impasse in trying to learn it on my own and had thought to come here and see if I couldn't learn more efficiently from the community rather than on my own. Jeez, I feel like every time I ask a question in one of these forums, I'm always greeted with hostility and snarky comments. Perhaps, I'm reading your comment wrong but that is how it comes across for one in my position. @Ct: No, it isn't. But it does say to use a hex editor and as it turns out, HxD is the only hex editor that I currently know of and possess, hence my usage of it. I am well aware of the fact that I may be misreading something or perhaps going about it entirely wrong, which is why I am requesting aid here in the first place. I was hoping that those more accomplished in this field might be able to shed some light in some key areas that still elude my understanding.
  12. It is the only method that I know. Do you mean to imply that there are other methods available?
  13. That is but one of many things I wanted to learn how to do, but yes, starting there would a great boon for me.
  14. I here tales that the HxD hex editor is not the best program to use in these cases but as of this moment, it is the only one that I know of and will have to make due for now. In light of this, I'd like to request some assistance as to its proper usage. As it stands, whenever I decide to progress and open up the Rom within the editor, I have absolutely no idea what the heck I'm even looking at. I've scoured the ultimate tutorial as well as this topic here, as I was attempting to insert a map I created from Tiled, but I have never been more confused. Basically, I'm requesting information as to not only how I know what I'm looking at, I also wish to know if there is a proper procedure to follow to better learn how to use it. My thanks for any assistance that can be offered in this endeavor.
  15. My thanks Al. I wish I had your confidence when it comes to these things, but I've no intention of giving up on it anytime soon. Even though I only just discovered that mappy isn't the best program to create maps with...and now I have to remake this castle map for like the 6th time -.- I'm actually not sure which character you're referring to here. When I uploaded them, the first one was the second one and vice versa. For clarification, are you talking about the brunette or the black haired one? Just as well, you seem to work at a much swifter pace than I do. You already have a few chapters done from the looks of that other thread. As another solo hacker, beginner or otherwise, this flares up my competitive spirit. If all should go well, I would very much so enjoy seeing who can complete thier hack faster =] I'll be certain to give aTubecatcher a try when I feel confident enough and have enough content to show off. There isn't really all that much right now, but I've a storyline in mind that features the tactician as the main character on an unstable and dying world. It'll feature plenty of monsters and the like
  16. Well, I was thinking of posting a video of my progress here but I can't seem to find a suitable program for recording. I tried to use Cam Studio but for some reason, all that did was cause my computer to have a seizure and filled the screen with random flashing colors. Alas....For anyone still awaiting an update however, below is a few screenshots of the finished portrait and a single screenshot of it in action. In the time that I've been away, I've managed to finish the scripting for said animations though they lack much of the fancier sound effects for the time being and moved onto making my first map. Unfortunately, that comes with it's own set of unique problems that I'll not delve into now. Additional Notes: - The second portrait is of the second character I have completed thus far. You may notice that both are little more than rudimentary splices but sadly enough, I am not yet at a level where I can draw a custom mug on my own. Feel free to offer constructive criticism/advice on how to improve them if you will and I'll attempt to alter them appropriately. - In an attempt to learn all of the aspects of making a hack all of my own, I'm trying not to get bogged down in any one section for longer than I need to. In light of that, mastery of anything may very well prove to long in the coming. - I suppose that's all for now, unless I think up something else somewhere down the line to bring up. This post primarily is meant for those who have assisted me thus far just to let them know that I've not yet fallen off the planet. Many thanks yet again to those who aided me in getting this far. Note: The pictures appear to uploaded out of order again....
  17. It is sent. Heres hoping that you have better luck than I do.
  18. Okay...even after painstakingly going back to fix the palette's, I'm still getting an error whenever I attempt to enter it into Feditor. If someone has the time and patience, I would glad send them the resources needed to maybe identify the issue themselves as opposed to me attempting to explain it in words here. To whomever accepts this burden, I will send the needed script/frames in a private message or some such. I would post it here, but alas I do not want it to be publicly viewable until it is complete.
  19. After much trial and error with a great deal of frustration on the side, I think I've finally managed to get the palette correct. of course, I now have to go back in recolor all of my frames appropriately but when I finish and everything hopefully works out, I'll post some footage of it in action here.
  20. Ha. I'm no where near that kind of hacking just yet. As a solo man team, it might be awhile before I get to the point of messing with ASM, whatever that is.
  21. @Soi: The last time it worked was when I copied and pasted the template from the ultimate tutorial. Of course, all the sprite did was just stand there, but I guess that was the point at the time. It was when I went to add in the other frames that the errors arose. @Alfred: Ah I see. That might very well be the problem then. You see, for the most part the colors are stagnant throughout the frames but in the frames when the sprite is slashing, a few colors replace the others. I didn't think it mattered so long as the color count remained beneath 16.
  22. After resorting to three different sources (the ultimate tutorial, a doc file in Feditor, and this topic here) my animation script continues to encounter errors whenever I attempt to enter it into Feditor. Would someone kindly look it over and perhaps point out any flaws that I may have overlooked? Note: the pictures are named correctly, and I am aware that the last mode is still missing frames. I wanted to ensure that the others were functioning before hand. Fire Emblem Animation.txt
  23. Good sir/madam, you are an amazing person. And just like that, an error that has been plaguing me for days has been resolved.
  24. I've made a great deal of progress since my last post here, mostly due to the aid I received from the fine members of this site. And yet, I find myself stuck yet again with an error whose solution continues to prove ever elusive. Below you'll find some screenshots of the error in action. The first picture is that of the standing animation that I enter into FEditor. At that point, all seems well and good. However, when I launch the ROM to see how it looks, the colors become warped for reasons that I cannot understand, as is evident in the second screenshot. Would someone happen to know the cause of this? Edit: The pictures appear to have somehow switched order. The second is now the image I inserted into Feditor and the first is the error.
