Being a coach requires a mix of different abilities that not all star players have. At least Gretzky did better than Maurice Richard.

Even if he's rather whiny, he is the face of the NHL and the most well known player, while Ovechkin is a shadow of his former self.

At least from what I remember, Crosby was learning the ropes of the coaching job while he was injured, so he has a future there like other injured players. Surely his talent on ice can show in tactics as well.

Getzlaf is only 27, Vis is 35. The Ducks just thought it might be a good idea to get rid of him in case he doesn't perform too well due to age I suppose.

Toronto's been pretty active it seems. They didn't need Gustavsson much while van R can definitely be a help to their offense. Both Schenns in Philly could be interesting too.

To be fair he did slow down a fair bit last year on the scoring board.
