We each have our sins to bear.
But hey, as I said I'd be lying if I stated I didn't have fun while making this thing, because I did. Blissfully naive fun, but fun. I dunno, FE has always seemed like it'd make for good crossover material to me and I really like seeing what potential mishmash of people can come out to play. Super Robot Taisen can do it fine, but it has more leeway in my opinion due to the type of game it is, but I think FE can do it right too, in more able bodied hands.
Either way, glad to have been insightful, if only slightly. I'm always happy to provide information or loredumps about my stuff if people ask.

I never thought to replace Hannah because that would mean potentially writing new dialogue for the auguries, which I didn't want to deal with, so I let that sleeping dog lie.

In truth, I did attempt to use the Hawkzerker as the intended replacement animation, complete with Milanor's scythe, but it proved to be too difficult a task to work in properly at the time, so I had to settle with Hector Lord. It came out better than I expected, admittedly, but Milanor's still not 100% without his trademark scythe. |B

Good ol' Heather. There was no real reason why I decided to keep her unchanged between the two ROM hacks, other than just because. I even mention that much on this Tumblr post I made on Heather.

Incidentally, by the time I started working on FE404, I think I actually did start playing through Xenosaga Ep. III, and have known of what Shion could potentially do loooong before(in a roleplay I was running on the old Fire Emblem Sanctuary of Strategy forums, I was roleplaying as Shion); I was super fixated on the fact that she was a very... distinct fighter with her MWS, even if she did have sword training with her bro, so I never considered her at the time because that'd mean making a special animation for her. Nowadays I'd probably shuffle her into a Myrmidon role or related.

Baukerslap does have an explanation, a really silly one. I always thought Bauker(and Pascal by extension) bore a bit more than a passing resemblance to Bright Noah of Mobile Suit Gundam, who's infamous for his "Brightslap" scenes where he pulls pilots he knows who are in a funk and tells them to get their act together and act like real men with a good slap to the soul(and boy howdy they do). I think the rest is history.

About a third of the cast, yeah, on player, NPC, and enemy sides(Madelyn was the first we saw on screen). If you count myself as one, I'm the first to join, but the first actual OC won't join until Chapter 14 as the character replacing Priscilla.

To be honest even I don't remember fully why I decided to keep Matthew other than "I liked him", maybe it was because of Leila, since I know I would have trouble changing that? Heck if I know now.
Also the reason why Light Mages are a thing is as Acacia Sgt said - the Monk animation was in use by another character we'll meet much later. This was before the days of being able to copy an animation and paste it with FEditor in about 5 minutes. Linoan's Sage sprite was a special case at the time in that I had to go through several hoops to get that working alongside the generic female Sage animation(as that was still in use by two more characters, Madelyn and Jenny).
...I wish I could've introduced Sanger better, he deserves a good showcase.
I also wish I could've introduced Megan a lot better, seeing as she's an OC I really like, though admittedly what I do with her character I did get a laugh out of at the time. I recently made a Tumblr post about both her and Jenny as I had redrawn them and I mention how she got in, but I'll save linking it until Jenny shows up since it's intended to go with both ladies.
But until then, enjoy me and my dialogue being mostly "I'm meta - that's the joke!!"
Oh man, this mod. I can't remember if this was the first mod I played ever, but it certainly was my first FE romhack. It was fun, silly and easy, and I was at the same age as MK404, so it was the best thing ever.
It also led me to MK's channel, and got me to start watching his LPs, then other people's. I never even really watched YT videos before, but all of a sudden I started just chaining Let's Play FE4 vids. Within a few years, the constant listening to native speakers skyrocketted my comprehension and spoken English. I had initially gone down the scientific studies route, but now I'm working to become a translator-localiser.
FE404 unironically shaped who I am today, and I'm glad it exists.

Yes actually! No man's an island, but Cinnibar becomes your prison. I know D/P/Pt has a moment like this as well involving a Magikarp trade on an island.

You know, what would happen if the player, after coming from the sewer plant but before going back to Amaria's pad, deposited and released all potential Surf Pokémon they have and cleared fighting Solaris only to witness the Gym being flodded and the player denied access to return outside without Surf? Would they be stuck in that small area with the Heal Machine and PC with nowhere to go? I doubt Julia would help you. Sometimes you have to account for Unwinnable by Insanity when designing something.

Maintaining style fidelity was pretty important to me at the time, although I tend to flipflop with this on occasion here by trying to do certain characters with a distinct style in my own(i.e. Erk's replacement for an example compared to a project I'd do later), Yggdra Union's style I felt I had to try and keep for better or worse, since that game left a pretty big impact on me at the time.
And yes, people should play Yggdra Union, it'd be off the chains yo.

You know, a part of me wondered what a Pokémon x Megaman Battle Network crossover woul be like. This... This was not what I was expecting. (but I admit I do like the field effect being basically reverting gameplay to Gen 1 rules, that's kinda neat)

Oh man, Katherine. Yeah, she's an OC; I must have completely blanked out when I made the list and forgot about her, mainly because I don't really use her for much at all. Basically she's a friend toward Jessica, who is Heather's instructor(and Anne's replacement if you fail to get her).
As for me at the epilogue? I'll be honest, I looked like that pretty much at 13, let alone now; puberty hit me rather hard as a kid. I generally prefer having no beard and stache, though.
