  1. The important thing to realize here is that Gameplay Mechanics =/= Story Mechanics. Perhaps Celice/Julia/Cyas have some Lopt blood hidden in them that will rise to the surface again someday.
  2. It's definitely tough, but that's part of the challenge. The game was originally meant to be played blind, but you're free to look up events if you wish, or you will certainly miss some things. I'd recommend not doing Elite mode unless you want to make the game considerably easier, but it's up to you.
  3. I've had some strange dreams, but it's hard for me to remember them a few hours waking up, let alone today.
  4. I don't think it's anything more than a coincidence. Nintendo's localizers often spell names differently from the earlier fan translations even if they sound basically the same (Rinehart/Reinhardt, Lewyn/Levin, Altena/Altenna, Cuan/Quan, etc...). There's bound to be a palindrome somewhere, and one instance doesn't signify anything other than random chance.
  5. Very nice storyline! Looking forward to the future of this project!
  6. Looks like a fantastic hack! FE4 is my favorite Fire Emblem game, and I'm glad it's getting a well-worked remake like this. Do you have any approximate release dates for the nearish future?
  7. Can we get a general changelog (even if it's a little outdated)? I've been playing the patch and I like it, but I've just been wondering what some of the changes were.
  8. Best 1. Genealogy of the Holy War - This game has it all. Realistic storyline that felt like how a FE game should be - set in ancient times, with characters that aren't overly cheesy and dramatic. The large maps made it feel much more grandiose and epic, as if the fights were actual wars. The characters are amazing, and the split of Gen 1/Gen 2 was masterfully done. The dialogue was also extremely well-written, from the support convos to pre-battle scrips. I also really liked the gameplay, especially the inclusion of holy blood/holy weapons, each character having their own money/weapons, and home castles to prepare in (as opposed to some merchant miraculously following along the battlefield without ever dying). All in all, one of my favorite video games of all time alongside Metal Gear Solid 3. 2. Blazing Sword - Good story, and having Hector mode was a good move by the developers for the purpose of replaying the game from a different angle. I really like the gameplay of the GBA games, and I think this one is the most balanced with the best storyline. 3. Radiant Dawn - Really complex gameplay compared to the older games, decent storyline, and good replay value. Animations are also really good, and I really liked some of the themes present in the game (racism, good vs. evil, etc.). Story was a bit convoluted at times but I didn't think it was a big issue. Worst 1. Awakening - I liked this game at first when I picked it up, but now that I've had more time to reflect on it I realize that it doesn't do the FE series any justice. It's not very similar at all to any of the past games, and the artwork makes it look more like a manga than a game (giant heads, nonexistent feet, weird faces). The storyline was also rather shallow, with too much emphasis on the personal battles of one or two characters (Chrom and the Avatar). I also didn't like the gameplay at all, chiefly that there were enormous stat caps and no max level since units could keep reclassing back to level 1 ad infinitum. It was enjoyable to play, and not a bad game by any means, but the worst of the FE series. 2. Shadow Dragon - I just didn't like the gameplay and graphics of the DS games. The fact that it was a remake didn't really bother me, and again, this is not a bad game by a long stretch, but as far as FE games go it's my second-to-least favorite. 3. Heroes of Light and Shadow - Same as above. It was a little better than FE11, but falls short for the same reasons. Honorable Mentions of Sorts Sword of Seals - The gameplay just felt off, and some of the maps were too big for a game with this many chapters. I liked the continuation after defeating Zephiel, but the prerequisite was a bit arbitrary and I didn't know about it my first playthrough. Thracia 776 - Considering FE4 is possibly my favorite game of all time, this would be a natural game to play. Unfortunately, I never got it to work properly with the translation, so I've never actually played it yet. I'm going to try again when I have the time, and from what I hear, I expect good things.
  9. Some thoughts up to this point (I'm at chapter 9 at the moment): There's a number of minor typos in a few of the opening narrations. None of them are particularly severe, and I don't remember exactly where they are, but if you go through and spell-check them they shouldn't be too hard to find and eliminate. Should the Balmung be 50 use only? I recall that Sigurd's Tyrfing and Lewyn's Forseti were both infinite-use in the prologue, and since there are no weapon repairs in this game, it doesn't really make sense for a holy weapon to break and disappear. Even though Eyvel is supposed to be gone and can't be deployed, her items can still be traded during any of the battle preparations. It's not a big deal, but a bit inconsistent. In the original FE4, units promoted automatically. Perhaps consider making Master Seals easier/earlier to find (e.g., making more of them enemy drops as opposed to chests/houses)? I missed a couple in the early chapters and one of my level 20 units (Lester to be exact) couldn't promote because there are no Master Seals left. As expected from the start, this has been an absolutely phenomenal hack so far and I look forward to completing the current version. Thanks again for all the effort you've put into it :-)
  10. I don't want to spoil it Since your remake is different from the original, I'm treating it as a new playthrough. Also, I haven't played FE4 in a while, so I don't remember everything that happened.
  11. That's great to hear - just like to let you know that I loved FE4 (one of my favorite video games of all time), and your remake of it is simply fantastic. Thank you for all the work you have put into it, it's an extremely well-made game and I would love to see it finished someday. Edit: The current release only goes to chapter 10x, and since you said you were going to start working on chapter 13, is there any chance you'll be releasing 11 and 12 anytime soon?
  12. Why does it say (status: dead) in the topic title? By the looks of it, there's more of this hack to come. It's really good, so I hope Krad finishes it :-)
  13. This game really isn't too difficult on NM. As long as you train a good number of characters to a decent level and get promotions in time, you won't even need good supports to plow through it. I recall only using 5-6 characters per map during my playthrough and it went pretty smoothly.
  14. For utility purposes, Holsety > all. Otherwise, for obvious reasons, my favorite is the Mystletainn.
  15. There's no way to restart. If you're playing on an emulator, you can create some save states at the beginning of each chapter.
  16. Wow, the poll is actually really close - I didn't expect that.
  17. Like the others said, you probably don't want to lose Lex. He's one of the better generation 1 characters once he gets the Hero Axe, and he's useful for passing down stat growths/skills to his potential children. The prologue is actually one of the shorter chapters (despite what it might seem at first), so it won't take you too long to get back to where you were. And you definitely want to use Sigurd. He's a beast.
  18. I guess it's theoretically possible to ignore Eldigan and send Sigurd to kill Shagall and capture the castle.
  19. I'd imagine that's pretty hard to do because you'll probably lose half your army by the time you reach Shagall. Eldigan dies in the canon storyline though, and I can't imagine him killing himself, so there probably wouldn't be any dialogue.
  20. I've always imagined that in the others, if you defeat the boss or seize a gate, everyone just moves on to the next map leaving the previous enemies behind (who presumably don't chase you). The map system is different in FE4 though; even if you capture a castle, you're still in the same map.
  21. Still, I can't image some of the enemies giving up so easily just because their castle got captured (Arion and his dragonknights come to mind). You'd think they would just try to get it back.
  22. Alright, thanks for the input everyone! I also prefer Eldigan just because it's easier to pronounce and isn't as awkward, but I actually played the fan translation patch first before using Gharnef's patch for my latest emulator run so Eltshan came first for me. Jyosua: Yes, that's correct. I was curious about which localization people preferred.
