  1. Pic of the Day: Sakurai on Miiverse: "The Villager's bug catching net that was shown in the movie is actually a grapple move. It is sort of like Link's Clawshot and Samus's Grapple Beam." So this is the villager's grab move. I wonder how he throws the opponent. It appears that the villager is the superior bug catcher though. That's what you get for slacking off Link!
  2. As far as I'm concerned, Together We Ride isn't just the best recruitment theme. It's the quintessential Fire Emblem theme. When I think of Fire Emblem, I hear this music: Here's all the recruitment themes just in case you havent heard them all or need a refresher.
  3. I don't know how everyone else feels, but I would keep in mind that FE4 and FE5 are SNES games, and should be viewed with that context of story design. (And also FE1 through 3 of course). It's what I do for other series, such as Final Fantasy or the Legend of Zelda. I think OoT's story blows a LTTP's out of the water, but for its time, LTTP really broke the mold. It's a bit challenging, since I played most of the other SNES games as a kid so I have that frame of reference, while with FE I mostly have approached the SNES and NES stories as an adult.
  4. Silver is the best rival because he provides the greatest contrast with the hero, and thus makes Gold look better.
  5. Welcome to Serenes Forest, I guess!
  6. Sigurd, to me, is the ultimate FE lord. He actually dies in service of his people, and dies not knowing what his legacy will be. That is the nature of war and the real nature of its "heroes." But, its Jill and Tiki, so...
  7. Pic of the day: does anyone else think of DBZ and the Capsule Corporation when they first see this, especially with the background?
  8. Brawl is my favorite, but I voted for 64 for pure nostalgia reasons. 64 was such a surprise. It came out of nowhere and everyone who was cool played it.
  9. well Pent's there too, so it's a swing and a miss. I wonder who Jave picked. I'm hoping it's jill.
  10. You are at a bus stop but are out of change. Thus, you need to go around the neighborhood and ask for more change within a particular time frame before the bus arrives.
  11. That's a good point. I put Arvis over because he killed Sigurd, which gives a large amount of villain points in my book.. I think that would be a fun conversation in the game. You could probably include both. I don't really have a means of determining, but I tried to pick mostly favorites and spread it out across all the games. I would make a poll and have people vote per class. I put it separate just as an example. The only character I have due to purely from like that from my true list would be Nephenee. But what do you mean by god idea? I imagine it would play like Samurai Showdown, but in 3D like Smash Bros. I prefer 2D fighters to 3D. I also think Nintendo would be better adapted at developing a 2D fighter. Class Break Down of selections: Lords: Lord Arechetype: Marth Priestess: Celicia Mymidon Lord: Seliph Cavalier Lord: Sigurd Hero Lord: Leif Hero Lord: Roy Myrmidon with Archer abilities: Lyn Fighter: Hector Soldier: Ephraim Hero: Ike (FE 9) Light Mage: Micaiah Hero Lord:Chrom Mymidon Lord:Lucina Villains: Dark Mage: Ghanref General: Hardin Mage: Arvis Mage: Ishtar General: Zephiel General: Black Knight Super Sage: Ashera Great Knight: Walhart Others: Thief: Anna Manakete: Tiki Tactician: The Tactician (Robin) Soldier: Nephenee Pegasus: Caeda Thief: Sothe Archer Briggid All classes are covered very well. I took out Soren and added Briggid.
  12. Lucia is cool when she cuts her hair, but I go with the one in my sig.
  13. I haven't underestimated Haar too much. I have Haar in the Final Four in my bracket challenge.
  14. This is what I think about both games. I really don't think highly of FE8's plotline, but I think it's characters are better than FE7's. FE7 is very basic and concise, but it gets the job done and gets you to care about the characters.
  15. Ah. I gotcha. That's fine, but I'm not going to back down from my statements. We clearly disagree on the status of Marth as representing Lucina, and thereby allowing any Marth depictions to count as Lucina. Regardless of whether or not they have played the game, objectively, any time Masked Marth is depicted in media, it is 100% Lucina in the picture. Therefore, a Masked Marth poster is a Lucina poster. Any poster that features characters doesn't reveal the names usually. To give a more appropriate example, I believe if there was a poster of the Black Knight fighting Ike, it would also be a Zelgius poster. I don't speak or read Japanese, but that doesn't mean I can't make a statement based on what I've seen. Your word has more veracity due to your experiences, so people can trust what you say better. Bear in mind, to tell you the truth, the promotions I've seen in America for Awakening mirror in my opinion of the Japanese approach. I don't see any real difference. I actually havent seen an Awakening ad on TV or the internet, but that's probably because I don't really watch commercials on TV or ads on the internet. But you clearly know more, so people can take your word for it, if they choose to do so. We do appear to have a different definition. From what I understand, your definition (and correct me if I'm wrong) purely means the frequency of appearances in promotional and commercially sold material. Here's the definition according to thefreedictionary.com, which is the one I'm using: poster boy, poster girl: 1. (Business / Marketing) a person who appears on a poster 2. a person who typifies or represents a particular characteristic, cause, opinion, etc. Also called poster child. The arguments I've been making is based on the second definition. I don't believe there is a need to get so annoyed. The second definition is definitely more subjective. But Lucina does appear on posters as Masked Marth. Lucina is on those posters; again, objectively. So she would fit the first definition as well. I keep bringing it back to Smash because this thread is the Smash Bros forum, so I do feel the need to keep it slightly on topic.
  16. I have underestimated Innes the most out of this entire competition. Although I want Ishtar to win, I like how Innes has overcome the odds as a male character in a heavily female field.
  17. It doesn't take that long for a series trend to establish. Two Zeldas in and Z-Targeting was how you played 3D Zelda. That was my point. Although I was specifically referring to support conversations, I see your point. That doesn't make sense to me. From an initial look, sure, but she looks completely different from Marth. It's not referential in nature for any new FE fans. It's the fact that that's part of the game. I understand that there is a certain marketability to Masked Marth's appearance, but that doesn't change the fact that Lucina's on the cover. We are talking about characters' appearances, and Masked Marth is a Lucina appearance. It depends on what you mean. Associating a game with Lucina makes sense because she represents the key feature of children and inheritance. One of themes of the game was about one generation taking over the other. So saying Lucina could be representative of the game is very reasonable statement: "Also, for the first time in a while, we put in a lot on the theme of one generation taking over for another." - (Tohru Narihiro, development producer) Who becomes the poster character for something is a mixture of what the creators say and who represents the game for fans. Luke Skywalker is unquestionably the most important character in the original trilogy. But the most emblematic character in that trilogy is Darth Vader. Cecil is the main character of Final Fantasy 6, but the poster boy is Kaine Highwind. Happy Days follows the exploits of the strangely balding Richie Cummingham, but the poster boy is the Fonz. I haven't been playing up her importance. I've been saying this entire time she is a tritagonist. Third main character. Sheik is the second most important character OoT and is depicted as such. For fans who have never played a Zelda game, Sheik looks like the game's second most important character. Main characters get promoted in the media. I'm saying she can never supercede Chrom in media promotion because she's an instant spoiler. She gets promotion proportional to ger role. Eliwood and Hector are the game's main protagonist, depending on what mode you use. Lyn, regardless of what mode you pursue, in the game, is still the game's tritagonist. Just like Lucina is Awakening's tritagonist. You are taking what it means to be a lord in Fire Emblem and extrapolating to the concept of a main character. Main characters in fiction are done so because of their role in the story. Within the context of the game's main story, Lucina is still one of the game's main characters. It's perfectly reasonable for her to be a poster character, considering she is one of the game's main characters. To be fair, this is part of the Smash Bros forums, so that's why I brought that up.
  18. I actually don't have a problem with part 4 in itself in RD. The approach to the story is what hurts I believe. There are too many characters to create any sort of strong dialogue, so the Dawn Brigade characters become inherently inferior to the Greil Mercenaries. The Greil Mercenaries already have one game of development, while the Dawn Brigade really gets one fourth, if that, of RD. The too many characters factor also took out the game's ability to have strong supports to develop the story. And when the stories converge, my problem is that it comes off as really mashed together unevenly. In terms of themes, PoR outclassed RD in its approach towards racism and prejudice, while RD relied on a more simple type of conflict. This was further weakened by the dialogue; in particular, there are some key moments where main characters are written bad. I remember reading some of Ike's dialogue which made the character uneven from his depiction in PoR. RD is a step above others in the series because of its grand approach. My disappointment with it is more of a statement of how much I enjoyed PoR than RD's quality
  19. As I said, I don't make much of big deal of the lack of Lucina promotion. She's a spoiler, it makes sense she's kept a secret. I think she is fairly promoted in proportion to her role. And in six or seven years, when we look back, I figure that she will end up similar to the lords of FE7. How is that? Well, who was the main lord of FE7. From what it looks like now, you'd think that the whole game was Lyn Mode. Are tritagonists in Smash? yes. Is Lucina a tritagonist? Yes. Can she be in Smash? Certainly, there's already a Fire Emblem main character in Marth. Echoing off what others said, Robin actually does have a personality and is an actual character. Even though your own avatar's looks, voice, and actions change, his/her personality or dialogue does not. And his/her role in the story does not. And the Avatar character has become a part of the series. The entirety of Fire Emblem Awakening was enjoyed from your perspective, literally. Just because individuals may not personally like avatar characters doesn't mean they aren't part of the series. Supports didn't exist until FE6, but they were a staple basically by FE7. It doesn't take long for some gameplay element to become a staple of the series. My comparison to Animal Crossing was because if you took AC: New Leaf and Fire Emblem: Awakening, and you compared the role of the game's respective avatar characters, you would see that there's a lot in common between the two. The Avatar character is essential to Awakening, and if Sakurai seeks the newest rep from the most recent Fire Emblem games (as he did with Brawl), the Avatar would be worthy rep to represent Fire Emblem Awakening. For that reason, Robin would also be worthy rep for the series.
  20. Arvis over Julius. Good list though. Would you considering adding a few token class representative for the sake of weapon diversity? Here's mine. It has no duos, one main character per game, like Final Fantasy Dissidia, aside from the games with two generations: Lords: Marth Celicia Seliph Sigurd Leif Roy Lyn Hector Ephraim Ike (FE 9) Micaiah Chrom Lucina Villains: Ghanref Haradin Arvis Ishtar Zephiel Black Knight Ashera Walhart Others: Anna Tiki The Tactician (Robin) Nephenee Soren Caeda Sothe All Token Class Reps: Cavalier: Abel Knight: Arden Soldier: Nephenee Thief: Lifis Pegasus Knight: Caeda Wyvern Rider: Jill Mercenary: Severa Axe User: Nolan Archer: Briggid Myrmidon: Joshua Beast Unit: Ranulf Cleric: Mist Bishop: Nina Troubador: Nanna Mage: Soren Dark Mage: Canas Dancer: Olivia
  21. I usually marry Cherche if I have the choice. I really don't ever marry Lucina. I tried it once but it was very disappointing. Thanks for the rant. I didn't really look into Awakening until it came to the U.S. for fear of spoilers. But being on the cover of something is literally being the poster girl. So I stand by my statement. The way I explain it on Smash Boards is that these items are for fans of the game itself. I don't think advertising would feature Lucina because she would be a spoiler. But when given a chance to sell something for the fans, they put Lucina's mug on the screen. There are plenty of artbooks for different anime and video games that don't prominently feature females, so I think that's a bad argument. She still on there because she's one of the game's main characters. And as a Lucina advocate, I have always called for her inclusion as a third rep. I know it's easy to group supporters together, but that's like grouping those who want Roy as the third rep and those who want Roy to replace Ike. Certainly there were more Lucina supporters calling for that, but that's still no reason to take that out on someone else. I think the problem people have with naming Fire Emblem reps is they continually compare it to other series in Smash. As a generational series, there are really no other comparisons aside from Pokemon, Mother, and now Pikmin (which just became generational). Mother has has 3 unique installments, as opposed to Fire Emblem's 11. Most people think it would be weird to feature the deuteragonist or tritagonist before the main protagonist, but Fire Emblem can be represented different than other series. Others series regular feature tritagonist, like Mario or Zelda. It wouldn't be weird for Robin or Lucina to be included over Chrom for this reason, considering Fire Emblem already has at least one main protagonist (Marth). There is no rule for main protagonists of Fire Emblem taking precedence, as all the current reps are solo main protagonists in their respective games (FE1, FE6, and FE9). Remember, Ike is based off FE9. Not liking Robin for being an avatar would be akin to not liking the villager for that reason. The avatar character is an important part of the FE series since its introduction in FE12. It would represent the series well.
  22. I don't even have to think about it. It's FE9, which is what made FE10's writing such a disappointment.
  23. I think he looks more masculine because he's slightly thicker. And his armor also makes him look thicker. His face is more detailed so it actually looks a little more feminine because of what HD means they can do for the eyes and eyebrows.
