Yeah, I think it's the plot, the art and design of the characters, the fact that it continues the story of PoR (that must be among the most popular pre Awakening ones), the characters seem more popular too (even the ones that are not main characters, if you compare them to most non main characters of SD and New Mystery). Also, the franchise was going stronger when RD was released than when SD or New Mystery were, so that must play a factor too. I agree that RD mustn't be the less popular non-japan only either.
