The game balancing reason is quite moot as well, since Yuria maxes magic/mdef already anyway (and Celice will normally max mdef with Yuria's help, as well).

Just because you max a stat at some point doesn't mean the stat is as good as it can be. Celice would definitely appreciate a 50% Res growth.
