FE sound data

Some people might know about the FE7 and FE8 prototype ROMs floating about. What is perhaps less known is that some sound data was also "smuggled" straight from IS's server. I don't feel like uploading it all right now though, since it's around 200 or so MB.

So what data is there?

I cannot confirm it, but there seem to be programs that convert specialised MIDIs into the GBA music format. There also MIDIs for FE6 and FE7 and four or so for FE8 (since development on FE8 probably just started when the data was obtained), although they sound a bit weird since the instruments are probably selected in a special way (I'm not so familiar with music-related stuff, so I'm just guessing).

The two FE7 prototype ROMs are also in there.

Amusingly, there's also some almost-complete drafts of FE7's script, which Yuka Tsujiyoko probably used to match her music to(?). Some major script changes that I noticed were that Rath originally had a battle conversation with Uhai in Chapter 18.

<ウハイ>

ほう・・・ おまえも

草原の民か<k><d>

<ラス>

・・・クトラ族のラスだ<k><d>

<ウハイ>

クトラ・・・

【灰色の狼】ダヤンの一族<k>

その強さは 草

原一と聞く

・・・これはついている<k>

クトラのラス 手加減無用

いざ 勝負っ!!<k>

(Basically, Uhai: Hey, you're a nomad. Rath: I'm Rath of the Kutolah. Uhai: Dayan's clan huh? I won't go easy on you, let's fight!)

Meanwhile Heath was originally recruited in Chapter 20, by visiting a village.

(Heath wants to be an official at Ostia or something? I'm too lazy to translate it.)

Otherwise it seems to be around the same as in the final game.

Back to the sound data, I noticed there were Player Phase and CPU Phase fanfares, similar to those in FE9 and FE10, but for FE7 or 8. These were obviously canned. Meanwhile it seems somebody from IS used a piece of music from Terranigma (I think it's one of the songs that plays in the Epilogue) as a test music...

As for what I can upload, there are a handful of FE cell phone melodies (MIDIs). I don't know how else you can obtain them, but you can grab them here. They haven't gotten out of fashion have they? I know you can put MP3s and stuff on some cell phones now : P

There's a bit more, but I'll save it for later...

EDIT

Oh, it seems the cell phone melodies were available from the FE6 official site for a limited period.

Sorry, but I feel offended when people say MIDI is out of style :P

Anyway, there are programs (emulators) that can rip music from emulators if that what you are asking. And hell ,there's some programs like say Famitracker (http://famitracker.shoodot.net/) that could convert MIDI to old 8-BIt and 16-Bit software. I however have no knowledge of actually doing this but I know a little bit about MIDI.

I like MIDIs myself, but I don't know how others feel X D

Being a serious composer myself, I can say that I feel rather indifferent to MIDI. It's good for checking harmonies, but when you're a serious composer and your music is intended for concert hall performance MIDI can be very, very misleading (and in certain kinds of music relying on MIDI too much can lead to major balance problems...).

And those Cell Phone melodies are okay, except why'd they all have to be piano melodies?

What about if I was writing for a video game soundtrack or an everyday prime time show? Would MIDI be consider a bad thing? (lol off topic, sorry Vince!)

Another good place if you wnat to find fan arranged midi is vgmusic.com. They have decent Fire Emblem MIDIs if that what you are looking for, Vince.

Some video game composers do have the misfortune to have some of their works cut if they can't fit into the game or if the memory on the game is running low.

Honestly? I wouldn't know, since I'm not familiar with them. I'm just saying that from a concert composer's standpoint and not from the stand point of a game or TV composer.

Its hard to tell since as you probably noticed the FE8 instrument data is there waiting to be degraded (I think aiff2agb is the program that converts them, btw; *2agb and similarly named programs are part of the GBA software development kit) and in some file or other there is evidence of lots of FE8 songs being ready. I can't remember the file but the summary is here

As for the awesome sound stuff. Check out the directory "fe7snd\agbfe3\m4adata\aiff\new\bgm\" and specifically the fe7_op_vocal files. Does anyone have an ear bad enough to tell which one was actually used in the game/bonus CD it is likely the haruyama_voice one was just some synth Saki Haruyama made on the computer to guide the opera singer and not her voice, but then again is anyone bad enough to tell man from machine

As I probably said before "fe7snd\tujiyoko\Logic-data\" the two sample tracks in there are variations of the songs included on the FE7 pre-oder disc.
