Do you think that if a unit has a good class. can use many weapons, or has a certain skill, the unit is good?

I think it helps but the unit needs to have good stats as well.

Good stats/growths are nice, but somehow a unit can be "good" enough or decent without it. lolHawk.

Hawk just has good caps, I think.

What good are caps if the unit can't reach them.

In FE4, good caps mean good bases.

After all, non-luck/non-hp bases are caps-15. And the Sage class has like the highest caps, so...

If you have many weapons, you're likely going to just use the best types of weapons anyway. Quality > Quantity.

Skills that allow a character to kill more easily don't always make them better than a unit that doesn't have said skill and is still killing every enemy without it, though some characters need a skill that gives extra hits if they don't have pursuit (like Levin). Skills that improve their durability are more likely to make up for stats than "lol starlight hit".

Even outside of FE4, classes help determine a character's base stats. This in the end goes back to stats being important.

He can be called "useful", but not necessarily "good".

Depends on bases/growths.

For example, take Yodel. He can use light and staves; staves being the most useful of the two. He becomes useful, because he can heal other units so they don't die. But, looking at his level and stats, he obviously sucks in battle.

'Good' seems to be a word pertaining much more to battle than anything else. Having any of the things you mention suggest that they are reliable in certain situations (ignoring stats.)

Of course they can. Look what the Balmung does to Shannen.

That's a combo, actually. Swordmaster (broken class with high stats, Pursuit and Continue), Ryuuseiken and Balmung. But yes, his own growths are what matter the least in that mix (although they aren't half-bad, really).

@ the tthread question: Yes and No.

You see, Othin, Halvan and Dalshien all use axes(and other weapons upon promotion). Marty also uses axes, and he is way inferior(I'm not bringin skills into question, as Dalshien has none), is not the worst axe user in the game.

Upon promotion he uses Bows aswell. Tanya, Robert, and even Selphina are better than him.

But, on the other hand, Othin, that is already godly using a "slow" weapon, gains swords upon promotion, thus being able to use more useful "killer" weapons(Rapier/Armourkiller>Hammer).

Lachesis as any other class without staves wouldn't be half as good.

Though differences between combat units are trivial unless one weapon type is so much better than another (FE4 swords and axes). The extra utility from thievery/staves/dancing matters a lot more.

Paladins are better when reclassed into Dragon Knights in FESD. Barst is better reclassed into General when Brave weapons start appearing in H5. Doga/Draug is better as a Dark Mage in H5 (His def will always suck so you may as well make him something that'll do damage with 1-2 distance and avoid counter-attack)

Good class, spd, and supports and/or skills = good unit

But without the spd, component, if other stats are bad/meh as well, being good isn't likely for a combat unit. Unless there are some really OP'd skills or weapons involved.

But for a non-combat unit, even class alone can be enough. like Leanne.
