Wist Posted February 5, 2009 Share Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) What I do in GIMP is duplicate the layer that is the background, then delete or hide the original background layer. The new layer can have transparency via the user deleting sections or using the eraser tool (and can also be moved up or down amongst layers freely). I don't remember if you'd need to create a new transparent layer and place it underneath the duplicated background layer.
