General Spoon
He technically lost his mother figure, which supports my statement. He is also not manly, he is goofy and whines a lot, but his awesomeness makes up for that. Well, I suppose he didn't really man up enough to shoot people. So, yeah. Fruitloop Multipuck
Because in a lot of these things the hero is some goddamn kid who realistically would be a pretty poor choice to save the world or whatever, and if their father figure is still around one would wonder why they don't just ask their more competent parent to go solve the problem instead. Liz
because apparently emos are popular with the fanbase.
Chalis
Actually, being 'exiled' in some way (physically or mentally) is more common. :P
Nestling
Why isn't Garcia dead yet?
Rei Rei
Why isn't Garcia dead yet? Because without him, Ross wouldn't man up as fast as he did with his father alive.
General Spoon
Why isn't Garcia dead yet? Ross isn't a main character.
Suichimo
The closest thing Kenshin has to a father is his master, I don't think they even talked about his parents. He manned up because of the revolution and wanting to help protect people.
Bohemund
Why isn't Garcia dead yet? Easily arranged.

He manned up because of the revolution and wanting to help protect people. If I remember the manga right, after Hiko saved Kenshin from the bandits, he said his parents were poor farmers who died from cholera. After that, he was taken captive by slave traders, where he befriended three slave girls who would take care of him like if they were their mothers, and he lost them as well during said bandit attack. Destiny Emo
let me put this simply, THE FATHER (or mother) MAKES THE CHARACTER EVIL! if he's alive the MC gets so much pent up rage he takes it out on everyone else. but if he's dead the MC doesn't have this rage. this is mainly why i can relate to all sorts of evil. thanibomb
Because fathers usually suck and limit the son/daughter's growth. EDIT: Just kidding. D: Edited February 16, 2009 by Scorpio
