You won't notice this if you just web-browse, create documents or even emulating old and hardware-weak consoles, but when you get to more intense tasks, it will show. For example, my laptop struggled to run DeSmuMe, but now my gaming PC can run it without breaking a sweat. Insufficient cooling. With all your parts cramped into a slimline case, and with a limited number of fans, hot air is tougher to dissipate from laptops. Hot air adds wear and tear to computer hardware. It's also why CPU overclocking is strongly discouraged (and in some laptops, not available). Very difficult to future-proof, customize, etc, when compared to desktops. If you know what you're going to use one for, then none of these should matter much. Unfortunately, I didn't make the right decision in 2007 (when I bought my laptop >_>).
