Usually, if they're on there, you'll have to move them. Painfully. In FE7 Eliwood route, the boss the chapter after Eliwood's (forced) promotion is a Berseker, wields a Tomahawk (sp?), and has absurd Def and Res (21 and 25, iirc), along with 60 HP and other high stats. He actually has the balls to leave his throne and actively hunt down anyone who gets in range. And you only have 5 people, Eliwood being one of them.
