NTG Posted December 17, 2011 Share Posted December 17, 2011 welll... here is the whole eqn 2cos^3 x -9cos^2 x + 3cos x + 4 = 0 So i substituded cos for y, made FT (got y-1 as factor) then long divided, and factored the quadratic equation. The other answer was 2y+1 and y-4... I did something wrong somewhere... Someone halp. This question is annoying me for a while... Also the other answers i got were x = 0 and 120 Actually, you didn't do anything wrong (or do you mean that you definitely know you did something wrong?). Since cos(x) cannot be 4 then I believe you can disregard it, so all you get is that cos(x)=1 or cos(x)=-1/2. So x=0 or x=120 is fine, though do you have to give answers in a certain range?
