B-but. The book was horrible. Cliche, Mary Sue protagonist! Flat characters! Unrealistic dystopian setting! Ooh look, a wizard must have made that fake fire! Two winners to make the kiddies happy! "Suzanne Collins's Writing" is my new zero when ranking things in a 1-10 scale. Just take a gander at all of the "hip" sentence fragments and hatred of the colon, rampant grammar and vocabulary problems and descriptive writing that isn't descriptive in the slightest. The only reason I read it that one time was because my Language Arts teacher's strange taste compelled her to make it one of the required readings in the Advanced curriculum. The movie, on the other hand, was mediocre, but not something I would really watch again. I just love how critical I am. ...You do realize that 99% of movies, music, video games, and fiction books are unrealistic in one way or another, right? ...You do know that non-fiction/fantasy is a genre, right? ...You do know that you can't lump everything together like that and call yourself "critical," right? I think... honestly, I sometimes think my greatest problem with the Hunger Games is how all the hype revolves around a love triangle, instead of the fact it's a dystopian society where over 1000 children have died for the entertainment of others. And then there's the not-that-great writing and the romantic plot tumor (though that might be more because of fans than the actual books) and the fact that the third book seemed to be more of a clinical study of how to completely break a teenage girl's mind.
