For starters, due to the maps being so ridiculously big, there's a save function. use it, set it to auto-prompt you to save at the start of a turn. Secondly, if you're that afraid of being screwed, don't play the game. Seriously, worrying about Deu getting hit by fighters in a forest is like worrying about Levin dying. While it CAN happen, the odds are extremely low and it isn't the end of the world if it happens >_>. Hell, chances are that they may have 0 hit on Deu.
