Reinforcements always pop up if the commander of the squadron returns to his own castle. It gives nice experience and kills on your weapons which can act as a critical bonus once you get over 50 ( max is 100, so +50% critical, appliable to ALL weapons ). Alternatively, there's boss abuse which involves sieging the boss and attacking him with Iron/Broken weapons until you have the level you want. Gandolf is good to do that.
