Favorite Series makes it have 15 upgrade slots instead of 10. Wait, I think J has the limit vary by mecha, but marking a series as favorite gives them an overall max. Then you can manage your upgrades better. Don't forget you can also apply your pilot points too, so they can have better stats. Keep in mind terrain bonuses and seishins, they make all the difference in this game. Favorite series have different bonuses depending on the series you chose.
