The characters aren't as generic as most make them seem, the plot might've been a bit boring, but it isn't really that bad... I seldom make use of support bonuses, so I don't have a real opinion about the numbers themselves. I think Path of Radiance's makes more sense, but well. Give Lucius a vagina, and I probably would.
