whase
so I'm planning on making a game, I've already worked it out on paper. but since it is looking quite a lot like FE, I want to be sure if it's not considered stealing. of course it's not at all exactly like FE, it has a lot of features FE doesn't have. And a lot of features FE has, are not in the game. it's looking just as much like FE as advance wars does, though it is not like advance wars at all. I'm not going to tell to much, people might steal my idea's and make the game before I do. tell me what you think.
Kriemhild
Game companies have been stealing ideas ever since Mario Bros. That's how the gaming industry became so vast. Imagine how it would have been if other companies weren't allowed to make racing/fighting/etc games 20-30 years ago because of idea theft. I really don't see anything wrong with it at all. Kriemhild
If you're just stealing ideas, then yeah, it doesn't matter. Also, are you just going to make this game for fun and give it around to people for them to enjoy themselves or are you actually thinking of joining some actual game company, make this like a real game and sell it? There's a big difference between those two.
whase
I think I'll first try to make something to try if the game can become something, if it really works out well, I might sell it. (but I think those chances are really small)
Kriemhild
Eh, go for it anyway. You're not going to get into any trouble at all if you don't sell it, just as long as you don't directly copy characters or stuff while claiming them as your own. And even if you do plan on selling it, it depends on what exactly you're copying. Like I said, ideas alone are copied all the time.

uguu
If you wanna sell it you're gonna have to move to Japan
Original Alear
If you steal too much, it's called plagiarism and you can get fined. I'm not sure as to where the line is drawn. That's up to you to find out, or your lawyer. However, I suspect that as long as you're building it from scratch, and don't directly use any characters from FE etc, you should be ok. (actually it'd be ok to use those characters as long as you didn't sell it).
