  1. 1. What is your favorite musical genre

thrash METAL.

Ok?

softer than metal, modern rock that is not punk. endless amount of bands that are not listed.

I'm not finding anything on this "generic rock" you speak of, so you either made it up, or whatever band thinks that they are "generic rock" has made it up.

And even if the term does exist, "softer than metal, modern rock that is not punk" is redundant. Why not just call it, you know, hard rock? Or alternative? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding something here.

...Papa Roach is softer than metal...?

Anyway, all of those bands you listed share hard rock and/or alternative rock/metal between them, among other things. At least, that's what they sound like to me.

EDIT: Upon further investigation, those seem to be the officially listed genres.

Another thing, jazz is missing from the poll. The swing era of which happens to be my favorite genre after classical.

Alot of people like rock on this forum. The only artists I particularly enjoy are Blue Oyster Cult and Frank Zappa.

Hm well in terms of rock and metal, I don't listen to much:

Pink Floyd

Rush

Styx

Cream

Eric Clapton

Led Zeppelin

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

The Eagles

Muse

Nightwish

Within Temptation

Iron Maiden

Manowar

Metallica

Black Sabbath

Megadeth

KISS

Van Halen

There are probably more in that category, but I don't really care.

I also like classical music, so I'll just list some of my favorite composers:

Bach

Beethoven

Mozart

Brahms

Grieg

Pachelbel

Tchaikovsky

Chopin

Paganini

Schubert

Liszt

Rachmaninoff

I also fancy techno and video game music, mostly of the Asian sort. Things like classical Nintendo ballads, some of the more serious tones (in more serious games hurr) and a few others. One thing I can't stand though is Japanese pop and rock. To me, it all sounds the same. Have any of you listened to Japanese rock? Every guy makes this weird dip in tone at certain points, and it just pisses me off to listen to it.

I see no jazz on this list. Disappointing. I suppose you could lump it together with R&B but I would not do so.

Bohren & der Club of Gore.

They are awesome!

Mine in no particular order:

1: Tom Waits

2: The Runaway FiveAhmad Jamal

3: Django Reinhardt

4: Roy Hargrove

5: Ray Wylie Hubbard

6: Hiromi Uehara

7: Lyle Lovett

8: Captain Beefheart

9: Towns Van Zandt

10: The Gavinners Mose Allison

My favorite is probably Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ahmad Jamal or Mose Allison.

You're into the Magic Band, that means you never have to apologize for anything you do in life. Free jazz is such a great genre though, it can range from the almighty works of the heliocentric one to crazy shit like Naked City.

The Receiving End of Sirens

Chiodos

Mayday Parade

Taylor Swift

Lady Gaga

Motion City Soundtrack

Just Surrender

Something Corporate

This is what I have on my iPod, but I'll listen to and enjoy pretty much anything.
