Tileset, FE8: 18 5A 1A

Size: 24x24, allowed to vary in 1-2 tiles as shown:

26x24, 25x24, 24x26, 24x25, 25x25

OR

22x24, 23x24, 24x22, 24x23, 23x23

Requirements, as selected by Feaw):

- throne with carpet(s)

- at least 3 chests with at least 1 treasure room with a door or cracked wall (there's no max amount of chests or rooms)

- part of outside can be seen (at least 15 tiles)

- needs to have stairs INSIDE the castle (different levels), so entry stairs from the outside don't count (the one-tiled "reinforcement" stairs don't count either, but they're advised)

SL's is the only one which looks like an actual map from recent Fire Emblems (I only say this because Gaiden's maps were... just horrible).

And has the least amount of problems, both in gameplay and aesthetics.

This. SL got my vote too. Feaw's is decent but too cluttered, and the others fall victim to either tile spam, too much symmetry, or mixing indoor and outdoor perspective. (Something breaks my brain when houses and forts are used in an indoor map.)

That said, this is a great exercise for improving our mapmakers, and I'm glad there's so much turnout. :) Maybe I'll join next round, if I can make something that doesn't look like barf.

Anyways, Seph, outdoor doesn't mean you have to use houses and stuff. Just grass was enough.

Yeah, this. It just looks weird when an entire house or fortress is dwarfed in comparison to a hallway or a throne. Outdoor maps seem to happen in a "zoomed out" perspective, where you can see entire miles of terrain, and fortresses and towns are reduced to a few representative tiles. Indoor maps, on the other hand, are "zoomed in," focused on just one building's interior. Mixing the two isn't really a good idea. Tree tiles seem to be okay in either, though; in indoor mode they just become a single plant or hedge.

Yup, that's true for the most part.

There are still lots of times the tilesets mix them up, but that's mostly excusable.

But indoor + houses and stuff can rarely be used together. An exception is Chapter 2 of FE7, since it's a tiny fort and the houses are relatively far away from it.

If houses would be used with castles, it should be large ones used in village chapters, but those can't be used together by normal means.

If epic is full of clutter D: That amount of randomness is more planned for outside areas, since the large varied terrain kinda is part of naturey nature.

But, it does have the makings of a labyrinth. And would fit too. But as a castle, it seems really wonky and needlessly complicated :/

Becuase I won (yay!), I get to choose the rules for the next map.

BUT, becuase I already won in round 1, I think someone else deserves that honor now.

So I'm giving Luigi, the number 2 of this round, the chance to give the rules for the next round.

If you don't feel up to it, I'll choose someone else.
