Celice Posted February 5, 2011 Share Posted February 5, 2011 A hex system and a square system are essentially identical, since they still overlap just as equally. There's simply two additional sides than a square-grid would offer. You could say two more sides could offer more alternative tile usages, which to me seem more like they'd be for atmosphere/looks than actual gameplay or strategy. But this is assuming it's not a hex "tile" but actual 3D models. I think the easiest way to describe it would be as a tile, it doesn't matter how many sides there are, because that one tile has one specific function, like being a wall, or a staircase, or something like that. However, if the tile were actually a 3D environment building block, the walls of the hex tile could each have a different function which affects how units work--the southern most side could be a wall, the two adjacent sides could be windows, and the top three remaining sides would be walkable space.
