Do you mean with a map animation or a battle animation?

I recall the latter having some sort of issue, the details of which I've lost track...

Have you tried making a FIGH sequence using events and just having the ballista guy be far away? I don't see why that wouldn't work. As for whether animations are on/off there might be a code to do that or else I'm not sure... just make sure the ballista user isn't more than like, 10 spaces away, or whatever the ballista range is, I don't think that would work.
