General Horace
And that bring it up to a 60% finish rate, which is pretty awesome for H5, considering people doubted the option of even finishing in the first place. Glad to see another finish. You probably would have beaten me if I finished chapter 3 first, IMO. Balcerzak
Cain: Solid first pick, grew amazing stats and was the Xane clone of choice. An invaluable part of every strategy and his mount made him get there on time. His weak beginning lance rank was a minor hurdle in the beginning maps, but once overcome I did appreciate his high sword rank giving him access to killers that I don't think Abel would have ever unlocked. I honestly don't regret taking him as my first pick, though if I ever do another draft I will make a different pick just so the playthrough doesn't feel the same. Draug: I made him second pick because I wanted another Ch1 unit, and I thought his Knight-lock high defense before reclassing would prove useful. As it was, he probably was more useful as a meatshield in Ch3 than anything else, as demonstrated by Horace. There still may have been ways around it, but that was the most straightforward one. After reclass he went Hunter tree and almost never looked back (there was the one time I needed to avoid a Ridersbane that he slid back into Gen, for a very comfortable fit). His ability to double soon saw his bow rank shoot through the roof, and wielding Parthia for me was most appreciated. I never checked the averages, but I was underwhelmed by his strength score, even after a drop. I get the feeling I probably should have taken Wendell for pick 2 and Gordin for pick 3, but I don't really have any way of knowing. Bord: Definitely worth using over Cord due to starting weapon rank, and an invaluable hammerer. He needs rigging some speed levels at save points early on to be most successful, as well as some time in Merc, but that was a price I was easily willing to pay. Went Hero and never looked back. I someone doesn't get Barst, he would go very highly recommended as a replacement for the man. Very pleasantly surprised he was still around for pick 3. Tiki: Cost 4 turns to recruit (3 for Bantu, and then 1 for herself) and never really made up the deficit, and if I hadn't had her I could have almost completely closed the gap Horace had on me. I could have sworn I remembered her being invaluable in Ch 24 before, but that must have been when I went the long way, which obviously never happens in draft. Having a second Nagi for endgame was convenient, but as evidenced by others' turncounts for that chapter and my own struggles with it, was no means necessary. Despite my love for her as a unit, in H5 draft setting, while perhaps more sought after than in easier draft settings, she probably is not a priority pick. Definitely shouldn't have gone at pick 4, especially over someone like Castor or Horace. Boah: Replacement Wendell did the job of occasionally Excaliburing things, and that's what I recruited him for. I think I actually got more mileage out of him doubling my staffing than anything else. His growths were absolute shit for me though, and he could never see any serious combat if he wasn't OHKO-ing or crit-blicking. Whatever. He had his niche and he filled it. What else can I say about him? Astram: Objectively less useful than Matthis. Not a terrible unit, but I shouldn't have wasted an Energy Drop on him, not given him a Silver Sword forge that went unused. Shit speed for a Hero meant he wasn't doubling, and shit strength meant he wasn't packing huge hits. Still, for mid/late-game filler you could easily do worse. Matthis: Took ages to get up to speed, and needed a lot of babying as Archer to help his growths, but eventually after promotion he really took off. For the longest time he struggled with being outclassed by Jagen though, which is sad. Around longer than Astram, and had a horse though, so props for that. Much easier recruitment than any of the Wolfguard too. Aum Staff Elice: Critical pick for my Tiki strategy, and end-game A-staff for Fortify trading made her invaluable, and probably the best of the dregs. Bantu: I needed him for Tiki anyway... Objectively a wasted unit slot that brought down the averages of my generics. Quatro: Early enough in the list to show back up on the wrap-around. Auffle: Came in a lucky class. I tried to maintain a roughly 1/3 generic list spacing Aurelius: Came in a lucky class. I tried to maintain a roughly 1/3 generic list spacing FREE UNITS Seize command Marth: Being forced to beeline to every gate/throne with minimal wiggle-room for deviate made feeding him kills difficult. Needed boosters for his durability, but did a passable job at not being easily KO'd. Occasional forged rapier uses were situationally helpful. I should not have bought the second rapier though, that was a waste of money. Jagen: Never before has a Jeigan done so much work with so little stats. The only thing he had going with him were A lances and Dracoknight reclass for flier movement type. Still, completely necessary early game, and had some longevity with forges into the mid-game. Eventually completely outclassed. Wingspear Caeda: Vital for a lot of Boss-slaying in her allowed time, and hence for quick map clears. Eliminating cavs easily prior to obtainable Ridersbane, and being a secondary "Hammertime" was also critical. I hated having to kill her off. Vulnerary Wrys: Vital to healthy troops. Indispensable, and absolutely a good decision for a free unit. Door Key Rickard: Saved $ on keys. Jake: Ballasticians are invaluable and he didn't cost any turns to recruit. (In fact saved one due to no longer being in Marth's path to seize.) I cannot imagine an H5 playthrough without use of long range sniping, especially for picking off pesky Curates, or Arrowspating annoying DKs. Xane: Doubles as any other unit. Making him free for everyone is the only sane choice in a draft of this nature. A welcome addition to any team. Nagi: Dragon-woman does just about everything Dragon-loli does, had a little more durability, but a little less oomph to her hits. Before I gave Tiki speedwings, they were tied at speed too, so almost functionally identical to a trained Tiki here. Still, two was better than one, and suicide Nagi is almost required to punch through.
