Chapter 4

6 turns

I tried for 5 turns, I really did, but after about 10 deaths, I realised it just wasn't happening. Artur is just too frail! I did get some good experience for him and Lute, though.

After examining the chapter, I also think that a 5 turn might be possible with the Pure Water to buff Franz' durability.

Chapter 20 - 5/229

I had to walk Moulder into position, because my fliers were busy making sure that Myrrh didn't die (there's way too many Javelins on this map). Once he was ready, warped Garcia, then Eirika. The former took out Riev and Morva; the latter looked pretty.

I need to repair Garm.

Last 2/3 chapters

Chapter 20: 3 turns.

Sorry I forgot to note down the stats for this chapter. But apart from Natasha and Tana they were all practically the same as chapter 19(since it was 2 turned) apart from a few like Innes who had gained a bit of EXP(though nobody but Natasha or Tana levelled).

It was a short chapter but it took 3 attempts to complete due to the fact Tana needed to survive and activate Pierce on Morva with the Vidonfir.

Eirika moves to the left 5 spaces away from the forest space at the edge of the mountain and Natasha warps her. Then Tana picks up Natasha and flies across the mountain. Myrhh also flies across the mountain. The rest just go up a bit to get some EXP.

Tana Drops Natasha on a mountain(for the avoid, I probably should have have Natasha the Goddess Icon beforehand since took a few hits) and positions in that Riev will move to the forest tile south of the seize gate, and Tana will kill the Deathgoyle(woops I think I've called the Gargoyles this by mistake in the earlier descriptions) that drops the Spear. Eirika moves so she can be warped across the lake on turn 3 by Natasha and kills the Gorgon with the Sieglind.

On turn 3 I had Natasha warp Eirika and have Tana kill Morva with the Vidofnir, it required atleast one pierce which(at level 14 from EXP from this chapter) meant she had about 26% chance of killing Morva.

The rest, just went north for some EXP. I was trying to get Colm to S rank swords but it didn't work.

Tana-Goddess Icon

Natasha uses a rescue staff on Tana and then Tana flies to the upper left Wight before Lyons room with a Spear to clear the way. Then she would attempt to kill him with a Killer Lance.

Took 2 tries. But Tana was able to kill Lyon with a Killer Lance. I was hoping for a pierce critical, but she got 2 crits, took a hit and then avoided the turn 2 enemy phase Naglfar hit to crit twice more. Which still killed Lyon.

Tana attacks with Vidnofir, for a regular attack and then a pierce. Natasha uses up the 2nd rescue charge on Innes. Ephriam...misses, which screws up a one turn finish, Eirika attacks and avoids Formortis's attack. Innes couldn't attack because Ephriams miss meant he'd die on the counter attack and it would still take two turns. Tana kills Formortis on turn 2.

Also I forgot to use the Body Ring. Eirika could have doubled or something(but it still wouldn't have been enough to beat Formortis on Turn )1.

Final: 11 + 2 /242

Screw trying to rush this chapter, someone always ends up dead. Myrrh went up the center, Garcia was ferried via staff, and Moulder got a lift from my two flying things. I had fun trying to kill everything, because I put Myrrh just a little too close to one of those stupid zombies. Healing everyone took an extra turn. Eventually, Myrrh and Garcia made it to Lyon, and rearranged his face.

Part 2 was Myrrh on turn 1, then Ephraim, Garcia, and Myrrh again.

Can't be arsed to get endgame stats, because mostly everyone didn't improve much. . .

So, my thoughts:

Eirika: Your Strength sucks, kthx. So does your inability to hit from range.

Ephraim: Screw you, too. Got screwed in Speed and Res, which is exactly what I didn't need to see for endgame.

Garcia: If he manages to double, stuff dies. Unfortunately, he didn't do it that much during midgame, when I needed it. Lastly, Port Kiris can die. Painfully.

Moulder: MVP #1 for being insanely Speed-blessed, and not Magic-screwed. Healing from range, and blicking monsters was very helpful.

Gerik: MVP #2 for having insanely good bases. Minor Strength-screwage, but he made it up with Speed (because if he hits twice, his opponent's probably dead).

Marisa: MVP #3 for not sucking. She made excellent bait, and managed to get some insta-kills in as Assassin.

Cormag: Didn't get good until later, and that wasn't the reason why he was drafted.

Rennac: Despite his awful stats, he's plenty usable. Give him an Armorslayer and watch him kill stuff (really).

Knoll: Found the Wyrmslayer at base, got an amazing level before promotion, and then Summoner shenanigans. Always amusing!

Syrene: Managed to kill a couple of things, and made Chapter 18 less painful.

Myrrh: Like, is it possible for her to suck?

Chapter 9: 15 turns

This is the worst chapter. I don't have any of the units who are particularly good in this chapter, so everyone's contributions were impactful, from Vanessa's reliable offence and flight down to Neimi's chip. I only barely managed to get Eirika down to recruit Amelia, thanks to a horse-flavoured rescue chain, and only once that was done and the enemies had finally thinned out could Vanessa fly off to archer town safely. I took fifteen turns as opposed to sixteen only thanks to some overcomplicated trade-rescue thing involving stuff I picked up mid-chapter. I'm still not convinced drafting both of the cavaliers was the best idea, they really need to level up as fast as possible to get up to speed and with both of them, as opposed to one of them and another unit trained up earlier, that's a fair bit harder. At any rate, Kyle ate the speedwing as soon as he got some time off.

Chapter 10: 6 turns

Clearing C9 is a glorious event not only because C9 is out of the way but also because BUYABLE JAVELINS

Forde rescues Eirika and distracts the guy on the ballista from Vanessa. The following turn, he gives her to Vanessa who drops her over the other side of peak town. FINALLY kill Pablo on turn 6 because Vanessa missed once, but not before Kyle promoted to Paladin. Fuck Marisa, that's not happening.

Chapter 11: 11 turns

Innes sells his gem. Vanessa eats the goddess icon. Kyle gets a fresh javelin and the elixir, Joshua gets a fresh steel sword. He then promotes to Swordmaster while Neimi promotes to Sniper. People grab chest keys and Eirika gets a torch.

Eirika was on early torch duty before running away to fight zombies in the corner, so Kyle and Neimi who were going down the left side didn't have to. Everyone else went east, with Forde going to deal with the northeast corner, Joshua going south and eventually west, and Vanessa just going wherever she was helpful. L'Arachel was an idiot and got killed, and Dozla almost got killed, but he helped Kyle and Neimi team up for the boss kill. In the end, I just picked up the secret book.

Chapter 12: 11 turns

SALEH TIME

He gets a Heal, a Mend, and a Fire. Neimi grabs the silver bow, Joshua the lancereaver, and for others, javelin refills. Kyle is fed the secret book.

Fucking rout maps. Why can't Vanessa be promoted yet? At least she was way in front, killing a lot of enemies so they were out of the way before the others got there. Saleh, Eirika and Neimi were more or less in the back, with Forde, Kyle and Joshua in front and dealing with the majority of enemy units. The cavaliers got their C support, by the way. Ice and Wind aren't that great together but I'll be happy if they make it to B. Once the enemies in the bottom half of the map were out of the way, Forde and Kyle ran ahead to join Vanessa, since everyone else was too slow. They did, however, participate in a bit of cleanup, and Neimi did some convoy shenanigans to courier the Barrier staff to Saleh so he could start work on his worrisome staff rank of C as soon as possible. Also free experience points. Eirika went to Ewan's house late in the chapter, but realising they were in the back with 4/5 move and the chapter was almost over they decided to just make some popcorn. Like two turns of popcorn. Nobody but Saleh in the non-mounted group managed to catch up enough to fight anything in time, in fact, but Kyle was totally all over it so he just did more Barriering. And his level up was great. Turns out his DEF base is one higher in the Japanese version, OH WELL

Ah fuck it, one more. This one's short. Ewan's a mage.

Kyle took the heavy spear and Joshua took the armourslayer. They stalled so I could get Cormag and his stupid whip. And sure, I went and promoted Vanessa on the field. To Wyvern Knight she goes. Maybe I should have waited for the secret shop, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to afford a 10000 gold item. I probably am. Oh well.

I think that it's a little bit unfair that you're playing the Japanese version, which is easier. If that's the case, I might start again on the Japanese version for the better Franz, Artur, Lute, Ephraim, L'arachel, the weaker bosses, and the buyable stat boosters.

It's funny because I didn't know that there were any differences. Why are there differences anyway? Whose idea was it to fuck with the localisation?

At any rate, I'm not going to buy the C14 stat boosters, and will stick to the US version from now on. I suppose there should be a blanket "US version only" rule.

Chapter 14: 11 turns

I decide to give the energy ring to Forde, after promoting him.

Did some rescuedropping to accelerate the process, got Rennac the money way, and didn't go to the secret shop. It doesn't even have Physic in this version, you know. I hate this chapter, it's a pain to figure out as far as seize maps go. Surely I'll have it down by the next time it comes around. Thankfully it's over and Saleh hit B staves. Looks like I got the Berserk staff too. Dunno how "fair" it is to use it.

Going as fast as humanly possible, I barely missed the 7-turn clear, and barely missing a 7-turn clear on this map means getting a 10-or-more-turn clear. Fun for all the family! Still, it's better than my last run. But Saleh's staff rank is still B and a half. Am I doing something wrong?

Fuck. This is what happens when you don't have someone who can use Warp. Saleh only managed to hit A staves right at the end.

Lesson for all: Saleh is the best Warp candidate in the game if you have Tethys. If you do not have Tethys, he's a pretty bad one. Get Moulder instead.

Might as well put a description for each of my drafted Team.

Eirika: Useful, Stays ahead in EXP and is great going all the way down to decent as she reaches 20 and the chapters progress. Her strength is a bit low though.

Gilliam: Fantastic Early game, High HP,Str,Def coupled with the early games small maps and the chapter 7 Knights Crest for a Chapter 8 promotion makes him an Early Game Duessel. Was the best unit until around chapter 14 where his low speed just had him ending up mediocre.

Ross: I had him a bit underleveled I think, but quite decent as a Pirate and after promotion and a Speed Wing was very good. A shame he didn't get one more speed point because he could have helped make the last chapter pt.2 a turn clear since he would double with Garm.

Colm: Quite nice due to the few stat boosters he can steal and comes early enough that while he's not amazing in combat(and got speed screwed) not having him probably would have lost me a turn or 2.

Natasha: Average healer until chapter 16+ where the Warp Staff makes her integral to fast clears.

Tana: MvP, she took a few stat boosters but the payoff was worth it.

Amelia: Pretty Mediocre, nowhere near as good as the other cavalry in the game due to starting as a Trainee but useful in some places like chapter 14, Rescuing Eirika so Tana doesn't have to

Innes: Decent Enough, suffers from being a Sniper but good ranged combat came in handy at points. Took 2 energy rings basically for chapter 15.

Ephriam: Didn't do too much unpromoted and was basically an extra mounted unit which is sort of good for chapter 18.

Myrhh: Killed a couple units in 16 and some Eggs in Chapter 18, not much else really

Marisa: Is probably still stood at the bottom of the map in Chapter 10.

Final Turncount: 163 turns but actually 174 turns because the turncount reel decided it would cut out C12

I'm not entirely pleased with this turncount. Putting aside the fact that I did far better in my last draft, I made some major drafting errors that weren't really apparent to me for quite a while. First off, I didn't get a second earlygame unit when I should have, costing me a good chunk of turns in the earlygame because Vanessa is rather unhelpful until she can gain a few levels. Secondly, I drafted both Forde and Kyle - they're both good mounted units, of course, but they both join quite underlevelled and are an investment for mid-to-lategame paladins, with neither of them being very good at base. Without any units I can really reliably throw freely at enemies for a large portion of the game, I end up with a lot of unsatisfactory turncounts. Kyle's overall bad speed wasn't much help, either. He ended up with 10... base + speedwing + promotion gain, he didn't proc it once in fourteen levels with a 40% growth. 10, as opposed to the expected value of 15.6. Things doubled him, for god's sake.

My third problem was in drafting Saleh without Tethys, which primarily ruined my C16. Wasn't much fun not having a Physic staff for C15 either. He's good at combat, much like Joshua, though both have pretty average movement and Saleh was further preoccupied a lot of the time building up his staff rank earlier on, and Warping later on. Speaking of 6 move units, Neimi and Joshua are both early joiners, but had very different functions. Neimi was almost entirely limited to player phase chip damage, rarely even doubling, not even getting her bow rank to S. Regardless, I would say she saved a turn or two, mostly in the earlier chapters. Joshua joined slightly later than I would have liked (imagine if he joined just one chapter earlier), and had a little bit of a rocky start, but his combat prowess only increased as the game went on, especially following promotion. The only thing that really held him back in the end was, of course, his 5/6 move, which just wasn't enough too often. Not that he wasn't still good at dealing with groups of enemies everyone else was too busy/weak to deal with more or less on his own, with his high avoid and HP.

As for the rest of it... everyone knows how the twins and Myrrh are, and Ewan was a shitty Neimi who joined late. Overall, a couple of different choices would have done very well for me. More knowledge for next time!
