Druid Cathbad
I have attempted to make Artorias from Dark Souls. This is what I based it off of: And this is what I made (ignore the dots of random color): Did I do well and what can I improve on?
Teapot
probably to make it actually visible
Anacybele
What do you mean? I can see it just fine. :/ Anyway, it's not bad at all. The cloak or whatever it is could use better shading, though. And his ponytail thing is too short compared to the reference. Other than that, it's pretty decent. But if you want to improve, you should really start with splicing. Kon
The palette is so dark I hurt my eyes trying to make it out. :c And the head looks really small and squished.
Kramy
Try changing the color pallet, like make it brighter. Unless you can zoom, it's really difficult to tell the difference between the black and the blue
Loki Laufeyson
probably to make it actually visible This. The palette is too dark. Its wiggin' out my eyes. Cant quite make it out.
Druid Cathbad
Ok I'll brighten everything up a bit and make the head bigger.
Druid Cathbad
All right, ponytail is longer and goes behind him. I also added another shade to the cloth and armor along with making it brighter. Oh and the head is well, a bit bigger.
shadowofchaos
Still can't see any details without squinting at it and putting my face to the monitor.
Druid Cathbad
Should I just make the picture bigger?
Agro
You need to make it a lot brighter. Like, a lot brighter.
Druid Cathbad
Alright, I'll make it brighter again.
Caliban of Sycorax
Very dark shades are used for details and shaping. Even in a dark colored sprite you need at least a medium shaded color as your lightest shade.
Mew
Did a quick color change to show you what we mean (I didn't do a good job obviously, I just wanted to make an example). Sorry for movin in on your sprite, but the problem with it is that the lightest colors in your sprite are still pretty much the darkest colors you'd find in a FE sprite (if you are indeed going for FE style)--I'd suggest looking at the portraits from FE8 and picking out colors from them that would match this? That game is pretty bright and silly though so you still might have to do custom colors >_> edit: lol I got ninja'd man I am so slow Edited October 7, 2012 by Mewiyev
Druid Cathbad
Ok I just messed it up and somehow got rid of 2 shades on the cloth. So give me awhile...
Druid Cathbad
Edit: I put the wrong pic, here's the right one. Edited October 8, 2012 by Druid Cathbad
Druid Cathbad
I haven't worked on it in a while but I got rid of that awful ponytail and replaced it with a recolored Lyn one. I still think it might need a bit more shading, but of course I want your opinions.
Matt Snow
The Scarf is kinda pillow shaded but the ponytail/helmet looks way better.
