Gold Vanguard
Well just today I turned on my computer and the following message appears,PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key. I have no idea what to do. It was working fine yesterday.
Fateborn
Did you explore any questionable sites? If so, you probably got a virus.

Integrity
Sounds like your mobo's failing to read your hard drive. How adept at you at monkeying with the guts of computers? This could be as easily fixed as swapping what SATA port your boot drive uses. Is the drive still listed in the BIOS? Do you have a CD/DVD drive (or any auxiliary, really) and is it listed in the BIOS? EDIT: Additionally, how old is the hard drive? redturtle806
Integrity is right, It's not reading your hard drive. You might check the cable connected to the hard drive and see if it came loose.
Inactive Account
Yup. Hard drive. Computer hasn't taken any sort of damage recently, has it? Also, laptop or desktop? (This is just for guessing at how irritating it'll be to mess with the insides of it.)
Hero
Is it possible that your computer has been bumped or jostled much lately? I've run into this kind of problem with my desktop before a couple times after taking it on long car trips. I was able to get it purring again by opening it up and making sure all the cables were firmly connected. I very much doubt you would have this problem with a laptop though. Integrity
Also, laptop or desktop? (This is just for guessing at how irritating it'll be to mess with the insides of it.) Speaking as a fellow who has had to conduct repairs on the guts of a laptop, if you're working with a laptop open it up and make sure the cables are still secured and if they are and it doesn't read buy a new fucking laptop because it so isn't worth it. Gold Vanguard
Well my hard drive is two years old and the computer did slide of my bed once.
Integrity
You shouldn't be having any trouble at two years old. Hell, the drive in my rig is ~7 years old now. What about everything else?
Gold Vanguard
Everything else? When I turned it off the day before the screen started flashing and then turned off.

Gold Vanguard
Oh. Ok. I don't think my computer came with a CD. The hard drive is listed. I took it out and placed it back it the computer but that didn't work. Edited December 21, 2012 by Royal Guard
Integrity
Did you run any updates before powering down before this happened that might, on an off-chance, have corrupted something? EDIT: If the BIOS reads your hard drive as there we can basically jump straight to a software issue for the time being. Integrity
Any software changes at all? And if your computer doesn't have a CD drive, can you get one to hook into it?
