Yeah all the characters have trails like that when sent a significant distance in this smash. Color depends on the player number I think 1 ='s red etc just like the explosions when they lose a life

IDK. It's a pretty major gaming tournament, so the fact that Ninty wants Smash 4 at it is an interesting reversal from their position on Melee at Evo.

Depending on when it's held it might also indicate when Smash 4 is on track to be finished.

This could be a mixed blessing though. Nintendo may mandate the game be played with items on + all stages or something like that, which could hurt the competitive scene of the game.
