It's kinda like a half-assed first world country, with the east coast being more developed And the Amazon interior being kinda sparsely populated without too much going on Apparently that was one of the reasons why they pushed the capital to Brasilia. Kinda the same situation with China right now. it's way more complex than that dude literally every place in brazil has "first world" parts and "third world" parts I actually live in Brasilia. The interior was and still is sparsely populated but was never the poorest part of the country. The central western region is actually pretty rich, specially Brasilia itself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Brazilian_federative_units_by_Human_Development_Index Oh and Brasilia is really far away from the amazon.
