Yeah, but the thing that is when they become a ronin, they're unaffiliated, so when they join another clan, they become part of that clan, instead of allies, but you're still correct though. But if you beat them while they still have land, they'll automatically retreat to the nearest area under their control... assuming they survived then encounter.
