There's a way to figure out which tile is the correct one, and after you do that, it's almost impossible to get it wrong. I got to 300 pokemon chain pretty often back in diamond. After I learnt what to do, there wasn't a single time I wasn't able to reach at least a 60 pokemon chain. That's actually what made me not care about shiny pokemon anymore lol.
