SA (as well as MoF and UFO) change the way continues work so that you have less of a chance after continuing on a normal run. It's kinda silly but it encourages 1cc I guess... The other way of continuing makes it easier to unlock the stages in practice. Funnily enough, TD reintroduced old continues but made it so that just attempting a stage opens it in practice, rendering the whole point moot.
