CT075
can i just mention that i hate things like random starting stats because it makes planning so much more tedious
Klokinator
To be fair, the original sacred contention doesn't have random stats so you can still play that one. Also, the stats are only as random as they would be given a player's unique playthrough. When you play FE7 and get LUK/DEF blessed Lucius or another time you play through and all his stats are a bit below average, it's only as varied as those playthroughs would be. And inevitably, even if some units are really stat screwed, others will be really blessed, so within a certain average all units end up about the same. Eirika might suck, but her brother could be OP, or vice versa. I do get what you're saying though. I'll see if a fixed stat mode is doable without a ridic amount of trouble, though it's not really what I'm going for here. Edit: Also I additionally think the mark of a great tactician is dealing with the hand you're dealt and adapting to change, not perfectly tweaking a set stat lineup to always get the desired result. One is skill, the other is just a lot of time and effort spent making everything "perfect". Where's the challenge in a dondon run if he rigs every single crit as desired? Missing a key critical and coming back from it with no major losses takes more skill, in my opinion. Fateborn
I certainly hope you'll have a screenshot of that 'something nasty' when it's ready so we know what you're talking about. :v
CT075
lmao dondon's runs have probably less rng than a standard run
Person123
The thing is, it's very unlikely players will just roll with whatever RNG they get originally if it's sub-optimal. More often than not, people would just restart over and over until they get the stats they want. Players generally aren't concerned with unique playthroughs, they're typically looking for the easiest/most efficient method to win.
Klokinator
I play a lot of roguelikes, personally. I find that most roguelikes tend to require a lot of skill to beat, such as Desktop Dungeons as the first example that springs to mind. -The dungeon randomizes completely every time you play -The enemy composition, numbers, and positioning are always different, you can't plan so you have to estimate how many enemies to kill to get that levelup, whether to use that hp potion, etc -The items and spell glyphs are random, you might get fireball at the very start, or at the other end of the dungeon, or not even at all and if you don't get it you have to plan around not using it I don't keep restarting to get the optimal dungeon, I play whatever dungeon I'm given and have fun. If I lose, maybe I got unlucky, or maybe I didn't plan well enough based on the dungeon I was given. Most dungeons are beatable if you just play carefully, but sometimes I rush and lose, and that's my fault. In a similar way, that's how I plan to treat all of my games in the future. I like replayability, and a significant degree of randomness appeals to me personally. I tend to make games I enjoy playing, and then hope other people enjoy those games as well. I don't even think my tastes are that niche, all things considered. And hey, if my SC remake comes out terribly, there's still the original! Klokinator
Also a sort of addendum, this project will be free to edit when it's released, so if I don't put in a fixed-stat mode, someone else can edit it and do so. I fully support modifying it how people see fit if they so desire.
Klokinator
Sort of minor/sort of major update. New map sprites! Hawkeye has his map sprite, Dart has a map sprite for the Hawkzerker anim, and all FE6/8 berserkers use the regular animation! Yes, FE7 gets special treatment because it's the best of the three games. Deal with it. Edit: On another note, I've run into a teeny tiny problem. Please ignore the debug numbers at the bottom of the descriptions. [spoiler=Screenshots!] Ha ha yeah a big bag of laughs. Stupidity aside, I can't come up with any good bios for FE8 characters. The FE8 cast is terrible, boring, and dull. Very few characters, such as Nino, Ross, L'Arachel and co, and etc do anything worth remembering in the main story. There's supports, but most of the supports are also bland! FE7 has lots of memorable characters, like Serra, Erk, Nils, Hector, Matthew, Nino, Jaffar, etc... they are all interesting and have not only memorable personality traits, but also contribute to the story in a meaningful way! FE8's cast is bland and forgettable at best. So, I'd like help writing character descriptions for FE8! Also, FE6, because I just have never played FE6. Seriously, I haven't so please anyone who's played a lot of it, help me out here :B PM me or post character bio ideas here in this topic in a spoiler. Thanks in advance for any help here. NobodiePichu
hmm some of those work, but alot of those a weirdly worded. try harder with the actual wording, also some of them dont match up very well to the actual characters but if it works for you then go ahead
Magical Glace
There's quite a few grammatical errors in them, it's a tad distracting. Wolt could use a bit more, perhaps mention his desire to become a great servant?

Haku
Several of these descriptions are inaccurate on varying levels I should know, I'm making an FE6 remake hack lol although I like the overall feel of the desciptions. I can send you some of my ones if you wanted. Also Guinevere is spelt Guinivere in FE7, and Miredy should be Milady after Milady de winter, most people think it comes from that :P Edited August 30, 2014 by Haku
Klokinator
While I'm not about to start arguing names about FE6, Milady is named Milady in my project. Also, I'm Using Guinevere because she was called Guinevere in SSB. I really, really loathe name debates, and considering everyone has their own choices, deal with it. That being said, I'm currently using all these names: Dieck and Rutger are non-negotiable.
CT075
but klooooooook you have to use RUTOGA because it was in ssbb~~~~~~~~~
Klokinator
XD That being said, neither Rutoga nor Rutger make any sense as names, but GRRR I'ma man versus wearing a toga... Rutger seemed the obvious choice.
