Flying Shogi
It's not hard but it's definitely annoying. The blatant hierarchy of forced respect is not what I consider respect in my books. Oh well, it's something I have to deal with. Not excited that the next chapter or two(I think) continues to explore honorifics.
Esau of Isaac
I actually like it! I like the social hierarchy in Japan, to some extent. It's just a bit difficult to remember to use it when many of your professors are fine with you using plain form with them.
Flying Shogi
I don't mind using it and can be refreshing to change things up when we use masu form all the time. However, my instructor keeps reminding us to use honorifics when we speak to her and I was like "nope". She needed to go sit down with that and have several seats. Esau of Isaac
ohhhh, I've never had that with any sensei go nuts about that. I've heard about the head of the language department demanding students make use of it when speaking to her. I have yet to talk to her face to face but if they want to, might as well. Maybe she's trying to give you guys practice. Believe me, it gets rusty pretty quick. Soon it starts to fade and then you mix them up. And then you start describing people's actions who you'd use honorofics with using humble form accidentally haha
Flying Shogi
I don't know what the deal is with her but my other sensei(we have 2 instructors) and she(also female) doesn't require us to do that. Instead, this second sensei encourages us to practice. I actually want to use honorific with this sensei because she doesn't make me feel like I owe her something if I don't use it compared to the first one. Now, the first one is quick to remind us that we need to use honorifics when talking to other sensei's in the department. While I understand why, she doesn't need to repeat that every class. That gets annoying real quick. We haven't gotten to humble form yet but it's coming up. Edited January 24, 2015 by Magician Lugh
