Ethlyn
People have recommended you plenty of good movies, so I am going to try and say something new here : Phenomena / Creepers. ~ It is Dario Argento's movie, starring with the lovely Jennifer Connelly as the protagonist ~ The movie has a great soundtrack (Iron Maiden and Motorhead songs are used for instance) ~ Do you know the SNES game Clock Tower? That game was inspired by this movie
Junkhead
I was going to suggest REC. No mention of Texas Chainsaw Massacre? I saw that one, and I think I may have also seen the prequel. It's pretty good. Quarantine was better than Rec, fight me The Japanese version of Pulse If I'd even bother watching it...I think Quarantine 2 was pretty cool, actually. I'd put it up there. Have to check that out. Don't dismiss them just because they're "old". The Universal classics and similar things I mentioned fit into what you say, but if you don't watch things like Alien, The Thing, The Fly and Halloween, you're really missing out on some actually terrifying stuff. Like I said, I'm not ignoring your suggestions...otherwise, it would be a pointless topic (thanks). I'll check them out, at least. I've seen Alien when I was, liek, 8. And it was pretty cool. Loki Laufeyson
Seconding. Alien and Aliens are both a must. Otherwise, there's also... An American Werewolf in London John Carpenter's The Thing (absolute must watch!) David Cronenberg's The Fly (also a must watch!) Halloween (only the first one, but WATCH IT RIGHT NOW OH MY GOD) Re-Animator Shadow of the Vampire (really great) Nosferatu the Vampyre (in German, if that's any concern for you) Mr. Vampire (more comedy than horror, but still a great watch for fans of horror; also, in Chinese) I've also heard the Evil Dead trilogy and The Return of the Living Dead are both really good, but I haven't watched them myself so I can't confirm. Did you even like zombies? iirc you didn't anyway. If you'd like some classic horror stuff that's not really scary any more (and never really was), the Universal horror movies are an interesting watch. Specifically, I'd recommend Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man (I'd actually highly recommend this one, it's a legit great movie), Phantom of the Opera and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Going for something even older, there's Nosferatu, a film based on Dracula but with elements and names changed to avoid copyright (they couldn't though, in the end). It's also a very interesting film, and recommended as a prelude to Shadow of the Vampire and Nosferatu the Vampyre, a fictionalised account of the making of the film and a remake of the film, respectively. Hmm, what else is there...I guess some of Hammer's films are okay. At least watch Dracula if you're into classics like that. Oh and, House on Haunted Hill is another good classic. It has Vincent Price so there's that going for it, if nothing else. Bolded: Oi! Hammer is a national treasure. Hammer is life. Hammer is love. (yer a Universal guy, arent you?) Vampyr The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari To add to Nightmare's list of classics. Oh gods yes. German Impressionist film is gr9. Beware, both films are silents and not always will you find versions with the cards in English. Old Horrors movies are kind of bad. My lawn. Get off of it. I havent seen so much bad horror in my life as much as the last 15 years. Holy crap. All the 80s horror, ill take it over what passes for horror these days. Also go watch the original Hellraiser. As for genuinely creepy, Let The Right One In. (subbed only pls) Watch that. Some of the new Hammer like Wakewood and Woman In Black is gr9. Ju-On (the Grudge) is pretty cool. Not super scary or anything, but is more of a horror-drama: Go watch The Seventh Seal or i will disown you. Nightmare
Bolded: Oi! Hammer is a national treasure. Hammer is life. Hammer is love. (yer a Universal guy, arent you?) I knew you'd agree. Spoilers: I actually haven't watched a lot of Hammer so I'm more unfamiliar than anything else. My confession of the year.
MacLovin
Old Horrors movies are kind of bad. ): I mean, nevermind the fact that I seemed to have mixed in "Horror" with "scary". And no, I don't mean scary for ME. Just...scary. You know. Have you ever watched REC? THAT's a Horror movie. It's amazing...and amazing short, as well. The first two movies are gr9. But yeah, that's Horror. Do you guys know any actual SCARY movies? (although I'm not ungrateful, I'll check out your suggestions (: ) Thank you. By scary, do you mean jump scares? As for movies I don't think have been mentioned yet, here are a few. ->Blair Witch Project ->The Thing [both the '50s original and the 80s remakes+sequels] -> Texas Chainsaw Massacre ->Nightmare on Elm Street ->Friday the 13th. ->That movie with Pinhead. ->Fucking Saw counts I guess, but I don't like Gore-ror ->THe Exorcism of Emily Rose [idk, someone mentioned this one to me once.] By scary movies, do you mean movies that actually scare people? Because in that case I'd put any non-Jim Henson/Kukla, Fran, and Ollie affiliated puppet movie. Oh and if you should go to see some scary japanese anime stuff, I can't really help there. I think Elfen Lied and Mirai Nikki [sic] count. There's a bunch of anime that kinda go more for gore and bloodshed, which might not really count as truely scary to some people. [berserk, Hellsing.] In the end it kinda depends on what really scares you. FUCKING WONKA TUNNEL
Loki Laufeyson
I knew you'd agree. Spoilers: I actually haven't watched a lot of Hammer so I'm more unfamiliar than anything else. My confession of the year. :B We must remedy this someday, I think you could appreciate Peter Cushing a great deal. ->That movie with Pinhead. Hellrasier. >.> A newer good one is The Conjuring.
