The Elizabeth that appears in Fate is her from before she murdered people, basically a lonely girl trapped in delusions of grandeur, a screwed moral compass, and desperate for recognition (hence her obsession with becoming an idol). Yep, a majority of the characters in Fate are based off of famous people throughout human history. They are summoned as Servants by mages to fight in what is called the Holy Grail War, which is a battle royale between them for the Holy Grail, that has the power to grant any wish.
