This is mostly due to the one 7/10 from Game Revolution, as everyone else has given Fates at least a 90. Edit: Without it Fates is at a 91. I thought reviewers had reached the point to where 9/10 actually meant something. Frustrating that crappy writing and fanservice is getting rewarded like this. Avalanche Posted February 17, 2016 Share Posted February 17, 2016 It's the same principle that got Radiant Dawn poor reviews; reviewers always appreciate games that let them power on through, since they rarely have time to truly immerse themselves into the system of the game they are reviewing. Aiddon Posted February 17, 2016 Share Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Man, this is gonna be a pain in the ass to compile due to how it's split between three titles each with unique rhythm and design. And then you have to find an overall middle ground for the trilogy as a whole. I'm having flashbacks to how the Oracle titles for Zelda were years back. also, Destructoid's scores were 8.5 for Birthright and 9.5 for Conquest (the reviewer preferring the latter due to the added challenge). arvilino Posted February 17, 2016 Share Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Pretty great reviews so far, I was thinking they might have went a little lower because its 2nd Fire Emblem on the 3DS and thought reviewers might not appreciate the improvements as much. Half of RD's issue is because the localizers screwed up on the difficulty naming, so a bunch of reviewers' first experience with FE was on "Hard"/localized Normal. Apparently IGN praised the game's story. I suppose you really can't spell ignorant without IGN. Sorry for the salt, but I was hoping we'd actually see mostly 7's and 8's; those are more interesting to read and reflect varying opinions better. Seriously, people make Conquest seem like it's the low point in the franchise for storytelling. I refuse to believe anything can hold my attention less than Binding Blade and Shadow Dragon. Makes me more excited to pick up the game Friday knowing all of this. As much complaints and annoyances as there have been about the new direction, its nice to see Fire Emblem get the recognition it deserves. For me personally, it depends on the game, my series or simply my mood. While I complain about the story, I would never pretend to speak for everyone and say that no one is allowed to have another opinion, just like you can't make such a sweeping claim, either. For as boring as Corrin was in the original, he is getting quite a bit of praise for being a very interesting character in the English version. I can't say since I obviously haven't played the localized version, but there are two things I'd like to bring up: the reviewers hardly talk about the story, and every single time they've mentioned Corrin being interested, they've talked about the situation the character is in, not the character itself. I also believe The DanMan has a point; I think a lot of people have very low standards for video game writing. At least that's the impression I get more often than not. The salt some people have over reviews is pretty funny to see. Feel free to participate in the debate, but please don't clog the thread with a useless response meant to annoy people. A lot of us who are "salty" explain our reasoning, and you're more than welcome to try to convince us why we're wrong.
