Trying to plan out some things has left me wondering; how does forging for each weapon differ? Like does a +1 Killer Axe have a different statistical gain than a +1 Iron Lance?

I think they are the same gains. For me, I've been forging iron swords/katanas to +2 to give them almost as much might as a silver sword without stat drops. Plus, it's easier for weaker units to wield or for units that are just going into a new class with E swords. Bring them to D rank swords and they get pseudo silver swords.

128 copies and 247 gems needed for +7

Comparing to base weapon:

+1: 2 Might

+2: 4 Might, 2 Hit

+3: 6 Might, 4 Hit, 1 Crit

+4: 8 Might, 6 Hit, 3 Crit

+5: 9 Might, 10 Hit, 6 Crit

+6: 10 Might, 15 Hit, 10 Crit

+7: 11 Might, 20 Hit, 15 Crit

Weapons that can't Crit instead get more Hit

+1: 2 Might

+2: 4 Might, 2 Hit

+3: 6 Might, 5 Hit

+4: 8 Might, 9 Hit

+5: 9 Might, 15 Hit

+6: 10 Might, 22 Hit

+7: 11 Might, 30 Hit

Also for Enemies they get much less bonuses and no crit

Necessary Resources (It might have be localized differently)

Crystal: Swords - Pearl: Katanas

Ruby: Lances - Coral: Naginatas

Sapphire: Axes - Lapis: Clubs

Onyx: Dagger - Amethyst: Shuriken

Emerald: Bows - Jade: Yumi

Topaz: Tomes - Amber: Spells
