Konnor97
So I didn't see any recent topics about this, so I figure this is as a good time as any for this. There's been a new trailer for this remake/port/whatever, and it finally confirms the release date: 1.20.2017. Now, I've never played the original, and only a little bit of the recent DQVII remake/port/whatever, but I've heard good things about this. saisymbolic
DQVIII is the game of my childhood. Two words to describe it would be "scenery porn." Even now I have yet to really see a game with an overworld that made my heart speed up. The story is somewhat typical, but, for what it is, I enjoyed it. Along with the voice acting, it was a pretty fun time. That said, I'm not sure if I'll get the 3DS version. I guess I'll wait for more footage. Dai
I admit, I am a bit disappointed with the quality in this. I know it was initially made for PS2, but for some reason, it bugs me that it's got less quality than kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, which came out in 2012.Still excited as hell to play this. I watched once already, but I've been excited to play DQVIII since I saw it in Game Informer.
Magical Glace
I like DQVIII! It's my third favorite DQ overall (I like VI and VII more). I've played both the PS2 and the iOS versions, so I'm excited for this one. I really hope the little conveniences from the iOS release were kept, like the quick-travel menu and AI tactics for hero. Also, Angelo is one of my favorite DQ characters, alongside Harry, Terry, and Milly.
Alex95
I have yet to play any DQ other than I, IV, and IX, so I'm excited to play this. Unfortunately, I has no gold. Y_Y
The DanMan
I'm halfway interested in the series, but I'm not sure whether a decent story can make up for old-school by-the-books turn-based RPG gameplay. Not a dig at anybody who likes the series, just my dilemma. That and I find Toriyama's monster designs ugly.

Y_Y *looks for VI* priorities, friend, play best DQ first Just kidding! I'd say VII is a better choice than VIII, as far as the currently release remakes go. I recommend both, despite that. Dai
I'm glad it's coming out in January. I should have time to beat Moon and maybe even Sun in that time.
Skfoos
How does VIII compare to other DQ games/what makes it stand out/unique? Really interested in getting this after playing VII, and I never got the chance to play the original.
Dai
Voice-acting, for starters. And if memory serves, it's the only game in the series since I think two to have only four party members throughout the game. By that I mean, every game since I think three has allowed you to have at least more than five party members in rotation?

By that I mean, every game since I think three has allowed you to have at least more than five party members in rotation? There's two more party members in this version in the form of Red and Morrie.VIII axes VI/VII's class level system in favor of skill points. Every character has a set of trees that points may be invested in for skills. This was liked enough to carry over into IX snd X. Beyond that, it's pretty much what one expects from a DQ game. It has one of my favorite stories in the series despite the Rhapthorne fridge logic, so that's a plus. And to this day my only major gripe with VIII balance wise is Angelo not getting Multiheal at about level 24.
Lord_Grima
I loved playing DQ8 on my PS2 (probably my favorite game on that system besisdes Star Wars Battlefront II), so I'm probably going to get this, but I know it is big downgrade, graphics-wise, compared to the original. ChibiToastExplosion
Back when this was on the PS2, I was still on the GBA, so ever imagining this game on a handheld would have made me poop my pants. This version looks great - I guess I just don't understand kids and "muh graphics". On to the game itself, I think it's one of the better in the series - a series which I love. VIII, VII, V, and III are objectively the best in the series, although subjectively I like II the best. But VIII is great! "guv'na" Day one buy for me. Dai
I never said it looked bad-it just seems a bit downgraded, is all. I still fully intend to buy/play/beat it in every possible scope. It's just a bit off for me, for some reason. I'll probably get used to it once I'm playing it, anyway.
Konnor97
I thought that Angelo and Alvis (from Xenoblade) shared a voice actor. Neato. Automatically bumps that guy up a few notches, along with his neat outfit.
Magical Glace
Please elaborate? Why does killing Marta but not her son, or Alistair but not his sister break the seals? There are logical next in lines for sagehood. While I can understand, say, Pankraz's death in V since the only allies he had present were 1. 5 years old and 2. Knocked out, and his body was promptly reduced to ashes. There's no apparent reason for not dragging, say, David next door to a priest. The seal really doesn't make much sense. Skfoos
Sounds pretty cool. Will probably get it once it comes out (if I remember- I never get games I intend to get simply because I forget they exist, heh).
B.Leu
Kind of wary of the two new characters, because well, I want to play the original. But it's not unwelcome by any means. 1 January 2017, huh ? Where can I get a time machine ?

But it's not unwelcome by any means. 1 January 2017, huh ? Where can I get a time machine ? Of the two, one is an optional sidequest reward(Morrie) and the other joins later in the game as part of a plot event (Red). You don't have to keep them in the main party of four, either. You're perfectly free to use the Hero/Yangus/Jessica/Angelo group the original focused on. I will say, from what I've seen, that Red is ironically considered more useful than Yangus, though. Dai
My final party will probably be Hero/Yangus/Jessica/Red. =I I prefer Yangus to Angelo, really. Angelo coo', though. Morrie, too.
Magical Glace
Mine will likely be Hero/Red/Angelo/Jessica, Angelo being one of my favorite DQ characters, I can't give him up. Jessica has too much use as a support caster, and Red's just someone I want to try. Sorry Yangus! You're still hilarious, don't worry! Reality
Does Jessica with skill points into whips still have that balancing problem where twin dragon lash will outdamage any possible magic skill, and also all the physical characters other than Hero?
